“TradeWinds at St. Pete Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2013

This was our first visit to TradeWinds. We had decided to extend our Florida vacation, by a few days, as we had just spent a busy 9 days at Disney! What a wonderful experience that TradeWinds offered! We checked in and stayed in a Gulf front two~bedroom suite with a balcony. It was absolutely breathtaking! It was obvious that the rooms had recently underwent renovations and they were clean, modern, and beautiful. The resort had amenities that each member of the family enjoyed in the sand, sea, and sun. From the moment we checked in to the end of our stay, the staff were friendly and always willing to go the extra mile to enhance our visit! Thank you, TradeWinds, for making this a memorable trip. We look forward to returning again. ~ The Polich Family

Room Tip: Gulf front suites with balconies are breathtaking

We stayed here as our son was attending the rays baseball camp and they were doing a special offer.

Prior to arriving we had read some not so favorable reviews so I was a little apprehensive. I'm glad to say none of those came true for us and we loved this resort.

The location just can't be beat - right on the beach and close to all restaurants and stores.

We had a gulf view room with a balcony on the 7th floor and it was great. The room was clean and a perfect size. The only problem we had is the a/c didn't work properly the first night and I'm not sure it ever got fixed. However they did bring a fan to the room and by the middle of the week the room was fine.

All the resort staff we came into contact with were incredibly friendly and helpful even when the resort was fully booked and they were busy.

Our son loved the high tide slide. The obstacle course was not out during our stay but that was something the resort could not control - purely due to a rip tide and choppy waters. We never booked a cabana but didn't once have a problem getting one when we came onto the beach. The cabana staff were probably the most helpful and friendly of all.

One criticism would be the pools are just too small for a resort this size. The gulf side family pool is where all the kids activities where and it was always impossible to get a seat there. However the pool at the back was fine if a little crowded.

Overall we loved this resort and would definitely return to this resort for another vacation.

Positives: room was nice, comfortable, has a mini fridge, resort is beach front, cabanas are nice as is the giant water slide. Negatives: pools are way too small for a resort of this size - so packed with people you can't enjoy it, resort appears to be 5 older hotels that they put a fence around and call it a resort, prices are outrageous given the quality, food service was poor at on site beef o Brady's restaurant. I doubt I'd return to this resort.

My wife and 7 year old daughter just completed a 3 day stay at his hotel after spending 4 nights at Disney Art of Animation. I chose this hotel based on reviews and the family friendly atmosphere. For the last 5 years we have stayed at the Sand Pearl in Clearwater which is listed as a 4 star resort, but I would say it is a 5 star resort. We decided to try a different beach. Our room was a double queen with a mini fridge and sink. The room was very clean and the view was amazing. The beach and included cabana were great. Our problem was that the ocean was very rough the 3 days we were there so we went to the pool. The big family pool sign says maximum occupancy of 27 and is very small. There were at least 50 or more people in there by 2 pm and a lot of 12-15 year olds jumping, diving, and flipping in pool as well as throwing balls which was bothering all the smaller children. Twice I had to take a boogie board from an approximately 12 yr old boy who was jumping into the pool on it and it would go flying 10 feet in the air and hit people. Of course his parents did nothing as well as the staff. They need a larger pool or at least a lifeguard or employee to monitor the pool. The 2 bathrooms by the pool area reminded me of a bathroom at a little league baseball park, dark, musty, smelly and hadnt been updated in at least 25 years. The food at the restuarants was good, the paddle boats and mini golf were great. I also had to call the front desk 3 times to have them lock the mini fridge in the room. Not too big a deal. I paid approximately $250 a night plus the $25 a person for the resort fee for what I would call a 3 star hotel max! Last year I paid the same for the Sand Pearl which has a beautiful pool and bathroom area as well as overall the hotel is twice as clean. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this hotel to anyone with young children due to the pool safety issues and size, I would think teenagers would be ok. J. McVey

As the Director of Guest Satisfaction on behalf of all our employee partners, please accept our apologies for failing to meet your expectations. Regarding the concerns of the pool, I've forwarded that to our Director of Safety as we have added additional staff specifically to monitor the activity in the pools. Only in the situation of a priority call would security not be patrolling the area. It should be noted however, that due to the unusual weather conditions, there was a rip current advisory for several of the past days. This of course prevented guest from going into the gulf and instead they all went to the pools.
If I could be of any further assistance, please contact me directly.

This hotel offers something for everyone. I have to admit I have been here numerous times in the past but this visit was expectional. We were able to pay a minimal upgrade fee and doing so we ended up with probably the most beautiful room I've stayed in at this hotel. If I didn't know better it appeared freshly renovated, ocean front room with a balcony.
This hotel offers a family pool and an adult pool (as well as other pools). However, the adult pool was quiet and pleasant. This hotel does charge a resort fee which seems pricey at first until you see what all is included in the fee.
Everyone was friendly and helpful, especially Mary at the front desk.
The food and drinks were fantastic. We did take advantage of the tiki bar and grab a quick lunch at Beef O'Brady's, and although a bit higher than the stand alone (from the resort) Beef's the food was fantastic!
Miniture golf, paddleboat rides, entertainment, water slides, beach, etc. something for everyone to enjoy!

Room Tip: Room 4213 - wonderful!!! I will ask for it again on a return trip and since I only live 2 hours awa...

We've been staying at this location for over 20 years now and it's an excellent venue for business and fun for the whole family!
I attended the pesticide residue conference while my wife enjoyed the beach. I did use the fitness center and it's clean and a must for those who have limited time to spend to "work up a good sweat"!

We stayed at Tradewinds Island Grand for 5 nights in mid-July. There was a promotional offer..stay 5 nights, pay for 4. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We booked a parlor room with beachfront view. Thankfully, we were upgraded to a room with a balcony, as it was so much better. Thought that was very nice of them...we didn't even have to ask. The view was great! We were in the Breckenridge building. I never saw any trash around the pools; and, in our building at least, there was always someone vacuuming or cleaning something. They clean the pool areas early every morning as well.

As far as the activities are concerned, there are several choices. Our son is an older teen so he was not interested in the inflatable water park and didn't think the slide was all that exciting. He did enjoy the jetski we rented ($105/hr.) and the paddle boards ($35/hr.) We also went off-site to rent a small boat for 3 hours (At Frenchy's for $140+gas and tax.) We had hoped he would enjoy hanging out with other teens at the dive-in movies, but the movies understandably had to be friendly for all ages so they were geared much more for the little ones. The teens weren't really interested in Ratatouille or Monsters vs. Aliens. The outdoor activities do have to be cancelled during inclement weather and this happened a couple times during our stay. Perfectly understandable and not a problem for us. There are lots of kiddos at this hotel, but it is a big hotel and wasn't an issue for us. We usually prefer the beach to the pool, but the pools didn't seem too terribly crowded in any case. Most of the activities are geared toward the younger kids, but there were lots of teens at this hotel, too.

The beach is nice. We were able to see our cabana from our balcony which was convenient. The cabanas are reserved the day BEFORE you use them. If you want a specific cabana, you should plan to log in as close to 5pm as possible, as that is when the reservations open. It is $15 extra per day for any day you want a front row cabana. These did not always sell out when we were there. The other rows are free with your resort fee. The second row can go pretty fast. They do have cabanas and not umbrellas. I actually prefer umbrellas as there is more of a breeze, but more and more hotels have gone to the cabanas it seems.

The elevators are very small, but they have several of them, so we usually didn't have to wait very long. Sometimes there was no wait at all.

We enjoyed our vacation and would choose Tradewinds again should we return to St. Pete Beach.

Room Tip: If possible, upgrade to a beachfront view room with a balcony. Our room was on the end and the laund...
