We visited the anchor inn in colleges last weekend after reading the reviews we ended up getting cabin number 22 and we were very skeptical but after our stay we had none of the issues that were described in a previous post. The room was clean and the grounds were beautiful. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation this would be the place to stay. It has old Florida charm in a bring you back to a time of no corporate hotels. It your going to Sanibel you are not going to get the Disney's Grand Floridian for it what you pay for these hotels.

Stayed: May 2017

Thank you for leaving us your review!! We appreciate your honest feedback. I am glad to see you gave us a chance to wow you!! We are always trying to wow our guests with our service and standards. You are correct in stating that some guests expect the "grand" experience. But that is not what we are about here on Sanibel. It's about the experience of being surrounded by nature and having a charming place to stay!!

Please come back and visit us soon!!

One night was quite sufficient in this run down inn, we went to see some friends and this was the only one that would do one night on the island.
Wouldn't recommend it and would never stay there again.

Room Tip: No tips except keep away

Thank you for leaving us your review. We apologize that our property did not meet your standards. Unfortunately given what you wrote it makes it hard for us to know what we did wrong so we can try to fix it for our next guest.

When in fact more then half of our rooms have been renovated within the last 2 years. We do have some rooms that are not yet renovated, but they are well appointed and have that ole' Florida style to them.

Again, we are sorry we did not live up to your expectations.

Have a wonderful stay the next time you come to the area.

We have enjoyed the accommodations of a 1 bedroom , efficiency. Very clean, a little dated but the bathrooms & Kitchen areas were great! Helpful staff is always available. Easy walk to some good restaurants & a perfect place if you like to bike.

I am only leaving 1 star because the website requires me to. Our family chose this as our destination for our yearly sisters trip. Booking the room was a hassle and even tho the website has a special rate listed we were not given it. We checked in to cottage 22 on May 8th and checked out the 10th. The cottage is small for being advertised for 6 people. We had 5 and we were completely cramped, not to mention there was only service for 4 despite a "6 person" cottage. It is completely outdated. The shower was so small you couldn't even turn around in it. 1 bathroom is not enough for a family of 4+. These are the issues we had with the room:
1. Not enough service (seating, dishes, towels, etc) for our family
2. Ceiling fan was swirling and shaking so hard and you could clearly see the screw hanging out of down rod. So we were unable to use.
3. Vents on window AC units with black dust and grime. We had to wash them ourselves.
4. The valance and curtains in unit had visible cobwebs and grime hanging from them.
5. Opened the bag of sheets for pullout bed and there were boogers and hair stuck to them.
6. Unit had large ants and cockroaches.
7. Refrigerator did not close properly and our food spoiled.
I could continue on but you get the just.
We went to the office to address the issues, asked to speak to the manager and we have been told Patty is unavailable for a week. I'm sorry but if the manager is out someone takes the place as acting manager - who else would handle issues?
Again giving this place 1 star is being generous!

Thank you for leaving us your review. We apologize that you had a less then pleasant stay with us. As this is not our intention for any of our guests. I do believe that when you spoke to the staff on site, they wanted to speak to the manager to get their input on the items you brought to our attention so that a fair decision could be made on compensation for you. When ever a guest brings up so many items and are asking for money off their stay, it has to go thru the proper channels. Again, we apologize for the issues you had during your stay.

We stayed for two nights in April in an A frame cottage Number 22.
This is a very pretty Inn with motel style rooms and the A frame cottages situated right on the roadside.
Colourful and full of character, there is a pool onsite and behind the property is a river with grassed area for games and barbecues.
Bikes are available to hire at an additional cost.
The A frame has a spacious, bright and fresh seating area with TV and fully equipped kitchen with coffee making facilities. The rattan furniture is clean and modern and the whole room is tiled. An open stair case leads to a bedroom upstairs with a very small outdoor seating area. This bedroom is bright and more spacious but as the bathroom is downstairs we chose to sleep in the bedroom next to it.
This bedroom looks and feel more dated. The bed was not great quality and we didn't have a great nights sleep.A door from this bedroom lead out to a picnic table. The small bathroom had a shower and looked and felt in need of a refresh.
There is free WIFI and parking right outside. It is a drive to the beach. Toiletries for the bathroom are not provided. This is a self catering cottage so the bed isn't made up for you. The A frame has a front porch which feels private due to the clever planting between the next door neighbours. It was well furnished with chairs, table and sunshade.
This was an unusual place to stay, fun and quirky. It has the potential to be outstanding but the A frame was tired, grubby and dated especially in the bathroom and ground floor bedroom.
The staff were pleasant and friendly with good local knowledge and where great at getting us checked in even though we had arrived early.

Room Tip: our A frame number 22 was really cute and quirky but in need of a bathroom and bedroom update

Thank you for leaving us your review. The owners are working on getting bids on renovating the cottages to bring them up to date. However, even when they do get a face lift, they will still be designed with an ole' Floridian twist. As we try to stay true to the historic qualities of the property. We will definitely look into the mattress in this room, as we don't want our guests to not have good nights sleep while they stay with us. Thank you for bringing that to our attention.
