My husband and myself had a 5 day trip booked to Lido Key at the Holiday Inn. We were given the option a few days before to cancel our hotel booking and stay someplace else due to the Red Ted. We decided to keep our booking with the Holiday Inn and just make the best of it. So glad we did!!! Our check in was very quick, B.J. was extremely pleasant!! We had previously spoken on the phone the day before. We had an ocean front room. Our room was extremely clean, no complaints here!!!!. The first day the smell was a little less than desirable. Not the hote's fault by any means!!! We had no problems laying by the pool- quite large and really we had it to ourselves. August is not prime time in Florida!! The hotel bar has Happy Hour starting at 5:00 and runs specials on draft beers and appetizers. Food at this hotel is quite good!!! and Marjorie the bartender is so nice, go see her!!!! Our room was cleaned daily!!!
The location of the Holiday Inn is the BEST location out of any other hotel!! Our walk to St. Armands circle was literally 5 min!!! We had the best time eating and drinking at the different restaurants!! What an awesome place!!!! We were able to enjoy walking on the beach and the sunsets, the smell completely went away for our stay. We coulnd't go in the ocean, but the pool was very nice!!! Thank you to the staff of the Holiday Inn!! We will be back, and hopefully the Red Tide won't be :) Great stay!! Thank you!!!!

First let me explain that we have stayed at this hotel in the past because of its marvelous location across from the beautiful Lido beach. But , it is very dated and needs a lot of upgrades which, given the average room rates, you would think they could afford it.

Our stay was cursed by the now more frequent and harsh occurrences of algae blooms called Red Tide. The impact to the entire area is devastating including no swimming, millions of dead fish and an awful stench.

Clearly, this is no fault of the hotel’s and they were quick to remove the $100 resort fee on our 4 night stay. The pool was nice and served as a modest replacement for the beach, but unfortunately the stench was still an issue.

My complaints include the lack of modern facilities. The shower head was set at less than 6 ft so we had bend to wet our hair. The tub’s drain was clogged and drained slowly. Our room had the most annoying old fashion air conditioner that would go off and on constantly and was extremely loud. The internet connection was weak and we had to constantly reconnect. And they even charged for their happy hour appetizers on top of the already steep room rate.

Sarasota has some nice new restaurants and is a short drive from Lido beach. The nearby St. Armand’s circle restaurants and shops are a bit dated so I recommend you research a bit to find better venues.

Thank you for your feedback. We are always working to improve our hotel, and know that we are taking steps to improve our guest room offerings. We appreciate your kind understanding of the red tide situation - it is improving!

After my wife completed a stressful project we decided to spend a few days in Sarasota relaxing, looking at the gulf and enjoying the ambiance of St Armand's Circle. We chose to stay at the Holiday Inn because of its excellent location for those activities. It turned out to be a good choice. For location it can't be beat. The staff we dealt with were all friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well furnished hallways and grounds were likewise. St Armand's Circle was a 7-10 minute walk. The hotel has two restaurants for resident convenience and we would recommend them. The food was quite good and well served in each, and the sundown views through the glass walls were excellent. Bottom line, we went to relax and recharge for a few days and this hotel definitely helped us do that. We recommend it.

Room tip: West side rooms are all direct gulf views. Upper floor rooms should offer excellent city views from the east side.

My family was very excited to go to the beach for the weekend. unfortunately the red tide was affecting the beach and the smell was horrible with tons of dead fish littering the beach. We could not go into the water so we stayed most of the weekend by the pool which was very accommodating. The hotel staff was very nice and we still had a good
time even with the re tide. Our room faced the gulf and the view was beautiful. I will definetly come back but will check the beach conditions first.
