We traveled to Florida to visit a relative, and on our return decided to stay at The Godfrey due to its location (near the airport, on the water). Our spacious room was pleasant, with a balcony overlooking Tampa Bay. Beautiful view! The grounds include two pools, plus several outdoor seating areas that are great for watching the plentiful birdlife -- brown pelicans, herons, egrets, other shorebirds -- and the bay is perfect for boating. We spent one afternoon kayaking (rentals available at WhatSUP Paddle Sports, just a short walk away). The next morning we ate at the on-site restaurant; food was average, though the staff was exemplary. We noticed on the afternoon-event calendar that 10% of drink sales were donated to LGBT causes for Pride Month. No matter your orientation, we always appreciate it when an establishment celebrates diversity.
This is a hotel in transition, so we expected a few kinks. The floor in our room wasn't thoroughly cleaned, and the Keurig coffee maker didn't work. There was no A/C in the hallways, giving them a stale odor. Also, only one elevator was functional while we were there, creating a logjam on all floors. We assume these issues will soon be resolved, as I received a cordial note from the manager after I completed an exit survey. Should we visit Tampa again, we would definitely consider giving The Godfrey another try.More
