1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2011

Because of the 4th of july we had a hard time finding something, that must be said. So we maybe should just be happy that we had a place to stay for three nights. I’d rather sleep in my car! Upon arrival Sylvia, the lady at the front desk, told us we had a ‘beach villa’. We booked over the phone, so ok if that is what they call it. Of course we looked first at tripadvisor and at the website of the motel, and the reviews weren’t that bad, except for the attitude of the owner. When we emailed them first there were no rooms available. Because of a cancellation we got an email back which said they did have vacancy. So we didn’t know exactly what kind of room we would get. Hearing we had the villa increased our expectations. We paid for three nights and what a mistake that was!

Sylvia brought us to our ‘villa’. Wow, we were so disappointed when we came there! The villa is really a small, old cottage! We found a cockroach by our bed, yuk! The kitchen is old and very small. The fridge had handles that are brown from al the filth. The tiles on the floor are broken. Don’t even think about making coffee in the dirtiest machine I’ve ever seen! The ‘villa’ is right up front of a swimming pool from the previous next door motel. So everybody walks by your ‘porch’ and looks straight in to your ‘villa’. Nice beach view… Not! We could sit outside, but only next to our ‘villa’. No table, nothing there. Only old chairs which look very dirty. The whole place (not just our villa) just looks old and damaged. We complained straight away and asked to get our money back. No, no refunds. After the first night we asked it again. It turned out that we are in a completely different property! Nobody told us that! But still: no money back. The owner, Anna, was on holiday, so nobody could (or wanted?) to help us. We even went to the police station to ask how to handle this because we are from outside the country. We payed $95 a night! To make a long, long story short: we finally got the money back from the night we didn’t spend there and a $10 discount for the 2 nights we did. Really still not enough for all the time we spend with this problem and all the inconvenience! We left a written complaint for Anna at the desk, but we are pretty sure we will never hear from her again, it has been three weeks now.

To add: we must say that we didn’t feel comfortable at all among the other guests. They walk over the property, or even by the pool, like they own the place just because they come here every year. They take the chairs by the pool and leave their stuff there all day. You can’t sit there. You don’t want to, the look at you like you’re an alien. The night before we stayed at the Sea Chest Motel a few hundred meters away, and that’s a really, really nice place! We payed $25 less there and the room was twice as big and clean as our ‘villa’. I would definitely go back there! Book in advance because they are full most of the times. But I really don’t recommend SunCoast motel! Spend your money at Sea Chest instead. There you get real value for your money and the owners are so kind!

We stayed at the Suncoast from June 13-21. We have been to Treasure Island many times over the years, and we like to stay somewhere different each time. We just love these "Mom and Pop" places, both for their price and their charm. The Suncoast was a great decision. Just a couple hundred meters down from Central Avenue and all the great restaurants & gift shops, as well as Walgreens & Publix. The Suncoast sits on the beach and offers great views of the ocean and the famous Florida sunsets. The pool isn't huge, but is never too crowded and there are lots of chairs available. There's also a BBQ and sheltered eating area. Our efficiency unit had a very comfortable king size bed, full-size refrigerator, toaster, microwave and 2-burner stove, but there was no hair dryer or dish detergent provided. Towels were plentiful and replaced daily. Maid service was very good, and there was a coin-operated washer & dryer available. You could tell that this place had a strong repeat-customer base, and many of the guests were Polish, who all got along well with the ownership & staff. The owner/manager is extremely friendly and does her best to help her guests. Other places may be newer, bigger and flashier, but they don't have the charm that these smaller properties have, and you could tell by all the "vacancy" signs on the condos vs the "no vacancy" signs on the motels. We would have no problem recommending the Suncoast to others.

We spent three nights with our grandsons here in early June 2011. This not a luxury property by any means but is extremely clean, has very friendly management and staff and the key here is location. The motel is directly on the beach so you literally walk out of your room, through the courtyard and onto the great sandy beach. There is also a nice large swimming pool at the motel as well as BBQ facilities (charcoal grills only so if you want to grill you will need charcoal and lighter). Another big plus is that the parking is free and just steps away from the rooms.

Our room was a one bedroom unit, with a full kitchen with eat-at bar, a living room and a nice small dining room. The dining room had sliding glass doors to a small sitting area the had a direct view (through the lush greenery of the courtyard) to the Gulf of Mexico waters. The room had one full bath and very generous storage. The bed in the bedroom was king size and the sofa in the living room was a queen size hide-a-bed, do four people slept quite comfortably.

Just across and down the street is a full service Publix grocery store with everything needed for stocking the kitchen and if desired the bar. A bit further down the street is a Walmart and also a small "dollar" type store. One hint, if you do not want to pack a lot of beach toys and so forth wait until arriving at the motel and walk over to these stores and buy cheap ones and leave them behind (there is a storage closet at the Suncoast that has lots of left behind toys and other beach gear to use - check it first).

Many eating places are within walking distance and even more a short drive away. We found that eating breakfast and lunch in the room with dinners out was a nice way to both save a bit of money and let the grandkids experience some beach front joints in the evening.

All in all the Suncoast is a very good and affordable beachfront property on one of the best beaches in America. If you need luxury rooms, valet parking, fancy bars and dining do not come here. If you want value for the money, and a clean and functional beachfront room then this is the place.

Room Tip: Second floor end suites have best views

I loved this motel. Not only was it directly on the beach but it also brought back fond memories from when I used to go to Florida with my Dad. The motel is older, but it is fabulously cared for. The grounds are beautiful. The pool is clean (saltwater pool). I had an effeciency and that was great but I think next time I'm going for the suite apartment so I have an oven. You are walking distance to the Publix. Only drove one day while here because it was rainy and needed something to do. Went to the local mall (10 mins away). Then took my daughter to the Skyline Bridge, won't do that again after the panic attack that occurred going over the bridge...and then I had to turn around and go BACK over it!!!!! Anyway, the motel is awesome. The people are so friendly and accomodating. If you are looking for high rise hotels this might disappoint, but if you are looking for a taste of "old Florida", then this is your place. It is definitely worth the price.

I have stayed many different places through the years on Treasure Island. Suncoast was and is on the very top of my list of perfect places. Clean, staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the "villas" or cottages next to the Motel. Very clean. The pool was right out our front door, the beach was a nice distance to walk to, beautiful. rooms are small ,dont think i would try to put a "family" in for a long stay...but if you want a getaway with your special someone, by all means visit Suncoast Motel/Villas....Well worth the trip!!! Cant wait to go back!!

My husband and I went for Valentines Day and the week. We had a Wonderful time! The room was perfect and very clean. We met wonderful people and were luck enough to enjoy soup day and pot luck day. We had the best of everything at the Suncoast! The pool, beach, grill, games etc. We did not drive for one week which was wonderful. Perfect place to relax and enjoy! I cannot wait to go back!!!

We just got back home and I wanted to provide some constructive review.

The Suncoast is an awesome place to vacation. Vacations are all about location location location and the Suncoast has the location. A wide property located directly on the Gulf of Mexico beach in Treasure Island Florida.

The property is dated but very very well kept by the family run business. The owners and staff are extremly accomodating and go out of their way to ensure you are happy and enjoying your stay.

The pool is always inviting and is an above average size for similar properties. The weather is rarly an issue and the sunsets are something you will never forget and always cherish.

The 1 problem,? Disrespectful guests that abuse their right to smoke on the premisis. They smoke alll day and evening long and dont even ask if you have an objection when sitting in the same common area space. Poolside, patio or ini front of their room beside you, below you or above you. Cigarettes and/or cigars, someone is smoking at any point all day and evening. This may be an attraction to some but is surly a dissatisfaction to many others

The motel is beautifully set in such a scenic setting and the breezes are mild and refreshing. the continous stench of second hand smoke just ruins it at times.

A concerned non smoker
