Cafe Longet has been open about 6 months and four of us finally got to pay the place a visit on Saturday evening for dinner. All of us left with a sense of wonder of how delicious each of our meals was.
We all started with the Salad du Soleil which tasted as good as was evident by the effort that went into the presentation. This is a salad made by hand with layers of tomato, prosciutto, figs, mixed salad greens, burrata cheese, seeds, pesto and balsamic dressing. It is a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
I had Le Poulet Parfume or the marinated chicken with cranberries, ginger, fresh herbs, soy sauce, and orange juice. I truly did not want to finish it so that I could continue to enjoy the wonderful taste in my mouth. Others in our party had the Risotto, the grouper and halibut and everyone absolutely raved about their meal. The chef is from the Provance region of France and loves his work as evident in his results.
We had a bottle of wine selected from a reasonably extensive wine list with prices that are very accommodating to the guest.
At dessert, they offer a Cafe Gourmand which is coffee accompanied by a small sample of their four main desserts. It was the perfect end to the perfect meal.
This is a welcome addition to the Venice/Sarasota dining scene and one that I encourage you to try and then return to many times over.

We had dinner here with another couple as it was a new addition to Venice. Where to start? The Salad du Soleil is excellent. The small was enough to share with my husband as we both ordered entrees. Our Sea Bass and Lobster Risotto were out of this world. We split the dessert special of the day which was Raspberry Tiramisu. It too was as wonderful as the rest of our meal. The couple we were dining with thoroughly enjoyed their entrees and salted caramel butter crepe. The waitress was attentive without being overly intrusive. We watched her handle a very difficult table behind us very diplomatically. The table was clearly trying to get their meals for free and complained about everything from the moment they sat down. We were having a lovely time with the exception of their childlike behavior as they continued by poking fun at her weight and size when she would leave their table. Might I mention, they had zero room to speak. Both women cleaned their plates all but licking them and then complained that the food was subpar at best. They went as far to say the the potato mousseline were instant potatoes. Stating she knew for a fact they were boxed. Is she a boxed instant potatoes connoisseur? :)
We joked because she clearly doesn't know fine cuisine or she would understand that potatoes mousseline is a very finely whipped mashed potatoes with the texture to be so fine there are no lumps. Maybe she should stick to Denny's or Bob Evans. Unbelievable. With all that negativity they clearly had their issues and were simply miserable and unhappy women. The waitress was friendly and handled the situation with grace. We will be back as will our friends. We made sure to compliment the waitress on the way she handled the situation as well as pass our compliments on to the chef and owner before we left. Very nice evening with the exception of the table of two women beside us.

We are Venice residents who eat out frequently. The addition of Café Longet has really boosted our fortunes. We/ve had dinner several times and lunch once. Both the owner/chef and manager are French, as is the menu. The restaurant is small, the décor spare, tasteful and unpretentious. When it opened 6 months ago, the service was sometimes slow, but no more. The menu is not extensive but sufficiently varied and everything we, and friends we've eaten with, have had has won raves. The chef's specials beef and scallop entrees are so good it is hard to look beyond them, but those who have had fish and lamb are equally enthusiastic. The crepes and salads at lunch were superb. Prices are appropriate. If you are tourists and want the best food in Venice come here and to Cassariano (clearly the best of our many Italian restaurants).. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
