We came here for a planned short week visit. The visit was severely shortened by the impending arrival of hurricane Irma. Nevertheless, we liked our stay here. The room was neat. If you are looking for a modern look, go elsewhere. But for those who like a step back in time - this was perfect. To me, it was a great beach-side getaway. Our room made you feel like you were in an old ship from the 17th century with lots of dark wood. however, we had all the modern conveniences necessary to keep the teen kids happy. We will try to come back again when a hurricane is not headed this way.

Room tip: 2nd Floor Corner facing the beach.

What a fantastic place, I just can't get over how laid back and relaxed this wonderful place makes me feel, trying to get back in in January 2018, got my airline tickets now it's up to the Driftwood! Great people work there, and if you want a Marriott then go get one, this is no for you, if you want old school, there is no other place but here.
The Spiro's

Room tip: Ocean front room's, you don't need a car, a lot to do right at the hotel, Waldo's restaurant is excellent.

The rooms are dated but it is a nice spot in town and on the beach. The furniture is quite old and the bed was very hard. There were many restaurants and shops nearby. Publix is less than 10 min. away.

Thank you for your review. Sorry you found the mattress hard, all of them at the resort have been replaced in the last couple of years. Hopefully you will return again one day. If you do please request an egg crate mattress for your bed, that should help if the mattress is too firm for you. Thank you again. Jeanne Radlet, General Manager

After reading other reviews we knew Driftwood would be a different sort of vacation. We checked in after 7pm and had no problems getting the information about the resort & amenities. We snagged the last parking spot on site but were encouraged to see our room was a very short distance from the car with a small deck, two chairs, no stairs and easy entry. This is a bonus to not have to carry our luggage & beach gear through hallways & up elevators . There are other rentals with multiple stories on the property but we chose the villa style & loved it! There are other villas right next to you so consider this is you need more privacy.

My pics are as the rental appeared before we unloaded - clean, old school, comfortable and enough space to spread out. The decor is dated but I personally found this helped me relax and feel more at home than an austere setting that I'm not accustomed to. Be advised, there are no closets for hanging clothes but enough drawers to unload your suitcases. There is an ironing board/iron available in the villa. The couch is a pull-out and can be squeeky when initially sitting but is plenty comfortable (we did not use it for sleeping). The king size bed has comfortable linen and they offer to change out the linen on Tuesdays. There were two bathrooms with the master having a large jetted tub. The shower was in the second bathroom near the kitchen. Plenty of bath towels were offered but be advised there was no hairdryer in either bathroom. There were two tvs for use and the air conditioning worked well.

The kitchen had just enough eating & cooking items to make simple meals. There was a blender, toaster & coffee pot. Our coffee pot was not an automatic-off after two hours & the "on" light was burned out so we burned some coffee in the bottom on the second day. They provided the dish soap but we purchased a scrub sponge to cean the skillet since it was not a non-stick type. There was a dishwasher which we did not use during our stay. The refrigerator was a smaller full-size with ice maker & ice machines were located throughout the property, too. Shopping for food was simple and close by. Laundry machines are on site but we hand washed our own items.

The property office has a computer & printer available for use without a fee. We were able to purchase a Groupon for dinner and print it out for a local establishment. They also offer a book exchange that guests may use during their stay.

Waldo's is the onsite restaurant/bar located beside the main pool. It offers eating inside or outside and seems to do a nice business & offers plenty of staff. We even met a few locals that came just to hang out and enjoy the lovely venue which overlooks the beach. The main pool is right there so guests desiring a quiet dinner may find this too busy for their taste. It's requested that if you visit the beach in front of Waldo's that you do not bring your own cooler/drinks. However, there is plenty of space outside the lines of the restaurant for you to set up with your own stuff. Or, just head to Waldo's for a beverage of your choice!

Beach access is very easy and there are multiple shower stations to rinse off before heading to your room. You may get clean beach towels for use from the office. The second pool is more secluded and quiet and has shuffleboard. It is located on the other end of the property closer to the hotel style accommodations. There were two gas grilling stations and the property has grilling utensils at the main office for use. All property amenities are within easy walking distance and we never had to wait for their use.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not but there was a huge amount of seaweed in the surf during our stay in Vero Beach. It was hurricane season so this might have been due to recent storms. There were roped off turtle egg nests and buoys in the water marking the establishment of new sea habitats. There was a raised flagged area right out front of the resort which a local told me was the marker for a sunken ship for snorkelers & scuba divers. We did see many kayaks & paddle boarders around the area (available for rent on property as well as umbrellas and chairs). Speaking of the water I did not see one jellyfish!

I forgot to mention that there is specialty shopping within walking distance in addition to the multiple restaurants. On Saturday morning there is a small farmers market two block from the resort with live music. We met some lovely retirees who've taken up second businesses selling their wares - mix media stained glass (a retired business woman from the north) and a made from scratch specialty baker (retired schoolteacher turned caterer). Of course, we had to indulge......

We loved this venue for the style and convenience and definitely plan to return. This would be an ideal spot to bring a family, extended family or have a reunion.

Room tip: Book early to get beach view rooms. I would not recommend getting a room over the restaurant if you need your sleep.

Thank you so much for your review. I appreciate the great detail you provided of the property. Just one comment about the lack of a closet in your unit, you happened to be in the only unit on the property without a traditional closet, all others have at least one and many have two. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay so much and hope that you will return again one day. Jeanne Radlet, GM

We and another couple stayed for two nights in adjoining rooms. The place is a throwback to another time but still fun. The pools were fun and one right by the bar was very convenient. The location being close to some very good restaurants make for easy walks to meals. The place itself is quirky and fun to explore. If you want to take a step back in time give it a try.

Thank you for your review and kind words about the Driftwood Resort. We appreciate your taking the time to write the review. "Throwback" is a great way of describing the property, we like to think of the Driftwood as "Old Florida" and are very happy that appealed to you too. Thank you again for your review.
