We were there for an afternoon to hike the 1.2 mile trail along the falls. Nice trail, not to challenging but did have some hills. Next time, we plan to go on the 2.5 mile trail on the other side of the falls.

We have camped here and it was fun. We prefer campgrounds that are not so dispersed, but its a short travel to the falls and a fun time.

We stayed for just two nights, it’s a very pleasant we’ll laid out facility. Our nights were Thursday and Friday both were popular but Friday was close to full but it didn’t feel that way as it remained quiet and the site is well served so the showers etc were easily available. The staff at the registration were really friendly and helpful pointing out other things to see and do in the near vicinity, we can definitely recommend this site and we’ll be back.

The lake side campground has always been kept clean and neat. The restrooms and showers always clean. Meet a few of the host and they are always polite and friendly.

A short trail through the High Falls State Park revealed the remains of a once thriving industrial town. The High Falls over a man-made dam powered an early grist mill which was located on a stagecoach route through GA. Part of the original bridge piers are still in use as an overlook support, although the mill is in ruins. Following the spectacular falls down into the woods reveals an old 19th century Powerhouse. Headgates funneled water into steel penstocks although the only thing left are stone saddle supports running down the hill. The Powerhouse is in remarkably good shape since it was converted from hydro mechanical to hydro electric, extending its useful life. However, it as well as the town fell into ruins after the railroads replaced the stagecoaches and bypassed the town.
