Marietta Confederate Cemetery

We went through here on a trolley tour and then went back on our own. You can't help but feel moved to be amidst the souls of so many heroes! We liked how it was divided up into the states each soldier had called home. The cemetery is nicely landscaped and they are in the process of adding some additional statutes.

If you understand the historic appeal of visiting cemeteries, then you don't want to miss this one. So many o the confederate dead were brought here from battle throughout north Georgia and Tennessee. There are also many important people and pioneers of this county and city, as well as people who had amazing or tragic stories. Like Mary Phagan, of the infamous Leo Frank lynching story. As in most cemetery visits, bring your smart phone and Google your way into the lives of so many interesting people.

First, it was very hard to find the entrance to the cemetery. We just kept driving around until we found it. It's not the most attractive historic cemetery we've been to but if you are a Civil War buff it should be of interest to you.

It was established in 1863 and the bodies of the dead from the Battle of Chickamauga that were left on the battlefield are buried here as well as the men who died in the Old Soldiers Home after the war.

This location is interesting if you're into Civil War sites or history. There are displays and monuments that are informative. It does seem to be a little unkempt and finding the entrance can be difficult. Worth a visit.
