So this is probably the largest resort we've stayed in and from one end to the other it works a few calories off (not a bad thing). It's really well kept and maintained and cleaned and there is no shortage of staff serving drinks and clearing tables etc. (so plus note you don't have to wait long to get served at any of the bars). I am a food snob, so I think it could be better, but most people seem happy enough and you won't go hungry, there is lots of variety and three further speciality restaurants (which at the point of writing we've not eaten in but again we hear they are pretty good). On the down side all the restaurants are buffet style/self serve and there is no waiter service in the bars or at the pools so that down grades things in my eyes).

Our room was in the new block down by the infinity pool and we were happy with the room, it was really nice, and the location is good too, it was like having our own pool and bar area - it was busy but no activities so a bonus in my eyes, unlike the central pool where all the activities went on.

The evening entertainment was the usual blend of enthusiastic amauters which is always worth a few moments of your time

So in summery - nice place (although if you want to get off site and do stuff I don't think it's that easy because it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere) and we would come back back, the climate is fantastic - very hot (26°c most days) but pretty strong winds so don't be fooled and go out without sun cream because you will burn (we saw plenty of victims)

Where to start! Usually I feel by the end of a holiday that I’m really ready for home and glad to leave, even if it’s been pleasant, but here we were planning our return trip before we’d even left!

Every single little detail was catered for and every need was met before you even thought of it - something that could be easily lost by a hotel of this size, but somehow wasn’t, and the staff were convivial and helpful without fail. They work insanely hard.

Equally, you might expect it to be hard to keep on top of cleaning up after so many guests, but everything was always spotless and the tables in the restaurants were never cluttered or dirty. We were so impressed.

The food was massively varied and our 7 month old baby was delighted to have a little buffet of his own every day. Whilst it can get pretty hectic inside the main restaurant, there are some nifty little corners and outdoor areas in which to eat which were really very pleasant.

We would highly recommend this for a family holiday, even with a young baby. We had everything we needed and he slept better than at home! In addition, the family area felt protected from the wind and very safe, the toddler pool was warm and the staff were kind and friendly without being over bearing. Other families and children were a delight too.

That said, we’d also recommend it just for adults. The spa was beautiful and astonishingly good value. They could charge what they want because it’s your only option (go or don’t go), but they don’t, and the hot stone massage and a rest by the jacuzzi were so relaxing.

Cocktails and draught beer were always good and whilst we were in bed by 9 with the little one, there was a vibrant atmosphere of an evening if you wanted.

What was really special was how thoughtfully everything was arranged. Our room was situated right by the kids area at the opposite end to the restaurants and bars, so it was peaceful and beautifully quiet for our little man sleeping at 6pm! Whilst it’s a big resort it’s by no means an effort to get around.

One funny thing that we didn’t know about until we arrived - the resort is full of cats! They are pretty well behaved as they don’t jump up on tables or pester, but it’s quite funny to see them sunning themselves of a lazy afternoon!

As people say, there’s not really much to do as you really are in the middle of the desert, but if you’re after a blissful week of no stress then it’s perfect. There’s something incredibly relaxing about being cut off and you can see from the brand new (absolutely gorgeous) TUI coaches that Cape Verde is a dramatic landscape and a very special place full of really wonderful people.

We will be going back for certain and we have recommended to our family who can’t believe we had such a great experience for the price we paid.

Tips: Stock up on sun cream as the wind takes the edge off the heat so you could get caught out. And take spare nappies because we ran out and it cost €19 for a pack from the shop.

Just returned from a week at the Touareg, this is not a five star hotel but it’s not far off! As long as you go with that in mind then you’ll have a great time. The staff are fantastic and can’t do enough to help you, the food is great, I’m vegetarian and didn’t struggle once. Aisan restaurant was our fave. We did adults only and for us it maybe wasn’t worth it, we just didn’t use the facilities (eg the optics in the room) enough however the pool was lovely and the prosecco at the adults only bar was actually really nice.
We had fantastic weather, only one cloudy morning, wasn’t too breezy for us and didn’t need a jacket on a night.
Only downside was the flight, it’s seriously cramped and if we were to go again then we’d definitely do extra leg room!
If you’re not going to come out of the hotel and explore the island this probably isn’t the place for you there are far nicer five star hotels elsewhere for the same price, there’s nothing outside of the hotel at all!
We did our trips with Giggling Gecko Adventures and can’t recommend them enough, Jen and Richard are fab and fascinating to talk to! Smaller groups and slightly cheaper than the hotel tours, highlight of the holiday was the Saturday night fever tour.
We’d go again but would look in to a smaller hotel and probably self catering.

Lovely stay here. Staff are fantastic. Always smiling and very efficient. The place runs like clockwork. Book speciality restaurants asap as get booked up. Italian and Asian were lovely.

Beautifully designed from the pool to the interiors, especially the art deco style Atlas bar.

Entertainment not great. The usual. Although Abba tribute night was superb.

Would return in a heartbeat!

Finally, take the Quad Zone quad bike trip across the beach and sand dunes. One of the best experiences I've had

Enjoy!!

We had an enjoyable holiday with good and not so good points.
You are reading this review for information and not to know what we got up to, so here are the facts.

The hotel is totally isolated so there is nothing to see outside the grounds. The hotel itself is the biggest Riu in the world and it shows sometimes with some areas being overcrowded. This was particularly true with the buffet restaurant and the central square in the evening. One negative point here is the blatant ignoring of the "no smoking" signs with management allowing smoking in covered in areas. Not pleasant for non smokers as well as being a health hazard

The hotel staff are amazing and work very hard to please whether they are cleaing, gardening or serving food or drinks. The animation team worked hard to keep everyone entertained and some of the shows they put on were quite good.
The Tui reps are always available but the welcome meeting was a waste of an hour of our holiday. We even had to ask where to get pool towels, which we then passed on to many people, so I guess it's not high on their list of important things to tell guests.

We had a family suite which was a good size for 3 people. There were plenty of drawers and lots of wardrobe hanging space. The shower gel in the bathroom was topped up daily, there are tea and coffee making facilities but there were no optics which are only available in the adults only section of the hotel.

Having been to the hotel we are pleased that we didn't waste our money upgrading to adults only. The reason for this mainly is that the quality of drinks are well below the standard we have come to expect at Riu hotels. The spirits are poor and the cocktails are virtually non existent. My wife asked for a chocolate martini and was told that hot chocolate was available from the drinks machine. I consider 30 euros each a day for this is tantamount to highway robbery. We found the best drink available was sangria which was very good.

On the subject of food our opinion is mixed. The choice in the buffet is extensive although not always the best quality. The speciality restaurants are better although they are still all buffet style, which we thoght was strange. Our favourite was the asian with the Cape Verde a close second. The wine still comes from a tap and not a bottle even in these "special" restaurants.
The pool area is spacious and there are always free loungers alhough it's worth geting in early if you find a favourite spot. The hotel grounds are spotlessly clean and the gardens are kept in an immaculate state.
All in all it's a great place to get some spring sunshine if all you want to do is relax but don't set your expectations too high and you won't be disappointed.
