Located in the Pilsen neighborhood..a mainly hispanic area...this restaurant is a shining star..the food, the service...the ambiance is tops. Our server Marcos helped us with the food selections...everything was delicious..with flavors I did not know existed ...the whole grilled fish was a major hit with our table...we shared other dishes. The chicken was good and not the highlight of the selections. Eggplant side was super as was the spring rolls. Parking on street is limited but valet parking available .Cant wait to go back. Best of all..reasonably priced for quality of food and service.

Can't give you details as the names of the dishes I cannot recall as I am too Euro-Brit ignorant to remember Vietnamese words, BUT everything that was served was done swiftly, tastefully and clearly described by the waitstaff upon presentation. Very delicious chicken, pork and shrimp and fish dishes with the right combination of rich spices and great texture. This place will take off.

This Vietnamese restaurant on a quiet stretch of 18th St in Pilsen is a gem. Its 2 rooms are quite spacious and decorated in a subdued black and tan palette using materials that evoke Southeast Asia without being kitschy. It's not a huge menu but everything we ate was made with care, pretty to look at and delicious. 2 of us shared the papaya salad and the chopped clams with rice crackers to start. Then the whole fried fish of the day (which was flounder) with sides of fried rice and fire-roasted eggplant. We shared a creampuff for dessert. Our waiter Marcos assured us that it would be plenty of food and he was right. Some of the food was a bit spicy, setting up a pleasant little tingle in the mouth. Other dishes, like the fish which came with lettuce leaves, whole herb leaves to make little hand rolls for dipping in a ginger sauce, were flavorful but quite mild.

There's a small list of cocktails, wine and beer plus some non-alcoholic choices.

We thoroughly enjoyed it, felt welcome and cared for and will be back to further explore the menu.

HaiSous (two cents) is a Vietnamese restaurant in the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood of Chicago called Pilsen. It's worth venturing off the beaten path to experience the unique flavors. Start with the shredded papaya and beef appetizer (see picture). We also enjoyed the mussels in cocoanut sauce which were tender and tasty. Our entrees were also exceptional: grilled lobster and duck. Both were served with herbs and a semi-sweet sauce. Shred the herbs over a bit of rice, add the lobster or duck, and add the sauce. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The restaurant can be a bit noisy, but it adds to the festive feeling. Highly recommend!

Five of us (one out of towner--me) went to Haisous tonight for dinner. Two of us had cocktails both were exceptionally mixed and delicious. One was with rye and the other vodka plus with a rose petal, I don't recall the names. We shared chicken wings, special spring rolls and one other appetizer all were tasty with excellent dipping sauces. We then shared the duck--delicious-- and the pork (especially good) each with exceptional dipping sauces. The fried rice had a pop to it--and it was very very good. Our service was efficient and friendly; servers were well-informed about the food. Looks like they may spark a restaurant explosion in that part of Pilsen. Lucky residents. An absolute must-try restaurant.
