Okay, so it's a Chicago institution and there are definitely stores that are much more upscale than at my local mall...but it's still just. a. mall. Crowds, escalators, stores...the usual. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, just browsing. We did all 7 (or however many) floors, because we felt like we ought to, since we were there. We did stop in the food court and had some pizza, which was really quite good. If our local mall food court had food that good, I'd go shopping more often!
Overall, if you're in Chicago to shop, you probably should at least step into Water Tower Place. The thing to keep in mind is that quite a few of the stores found in Water Tower are also found on Michigan Ave and/or State St.
