“good deal, perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

We stayed here over Easter weekend when they were having great room rate deals. For the price we paid, the hotel met our needs and was very clean and comfortable. Without that deal, however, I'm not sure we would have been as satisfied with what we were paying for. The rooms were a bit smaller than we expected them to be, but the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were large. We were touring the city and found the location of the hotel to be perfect for those needs: steps from Michigan Ave., a reasonable walk to Navy Pier, close to many restaurants, easy access to the subway. Room service charges were quite hefty and there was no coffee pot in the room, but they do serve complimentary coffee in the lobby every morning so that wasn't too much of an issue. We didn't care about the view since we weren't planning to be in the room for most of the day, but if that is important, than requesting a room with a view would be necessary. It wasn't a "luxury" hotel, but more of a clean, minimalist business hotel that got the job done. Free wifi was very nice as it allowed us to log onto our computers to find nearby restaurants and places of interest quickly. Overall, the experience was pleasant, but I wonder if having to pay the full price would be worth it. I don't know how the rooms and service are in other "upscale" hotels in the same vicinity, but I must say I was expecting a bit more of a wow-factor after reading other Conrad Chicago reviews.

Usually there is something to complain about at some point during the stay at a hotel...it is hard for everything to be perfect- but the Conrad Chicago was perfect in every way. From the doormen and front desk people, to the "extras" fresh coffee and tea in the lobby, lemonade on ice available after a long day of walking, robes, complimentary room bottled water, free wi-fi, awesome room and soaking tub and shower, the location was also perfect- we walked to almost everything and what we couldn't walk to , the CTA was convenient to the hotel. The Conrad was also attached to a nice mall so we could walk directly in to grab a quick snack or something we forgot for our trip. The rooms were amazingly quiet, we never heard a door close or a person or music...the beds were welcoming after beng a tourist all day. We had a great stay here!

Our first time to stay at this hotel in Chicago. Location is one block off Michigan Ave, which is very nice if you plan to shop at all. We used the self-park option, which worked out great. Parking garage is very convenient; right across the street. Hotel has direct access to North Bridge Shops, which is very nice if there is inclement weather. Room was very nice, loaded up with anything we might need. Booked the bed w/breakfast option, and the breakfast was very good; restaurant service was great. A treat to stay here!

Room Tip: We requested a room on an upper floor-received 16th floor room. Don't think you can go any highe...

Overall a great experience. Desk staff were top notch, the hotel itself and rooms we had were very nice, and met my expectations. It's not the Peninsula, but then it's 50% less as well. We will return. Only complaints were an inattentive bar staff member, every other employee we encountered was superb. One point travelers should be aware of: when entering off the street you must ride an elevator to the 5th floor lobby, walk across the lobby and then jump on the elevator to your floor. Not an issue for us, but perhaps for some.

Room Tip: View rooms have a slightly better view, but don't expect much.

Very nice hotel located in the same building as a mall. Pet friendly at no extra fee. Walked everywhere. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed at the Conrad Chicago so that my daughter could attend the University of Chicago's open house for prospective students. The location is perfect, an easy walking distance to both the loop and the magnificent mile. The room was much smaller than I expected, but very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are huge. The bed was very comfortable, and everyone we encountered, from the front desk to room service, was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered dinner and breakfast from room service, and the food arrived quickly, and was delicious. But minor issues did ultimately add up and negatively impact our enjoyment. The rooms have a mini-fridge, but they are not stocked. You must place a room service order off the mini-fridge menu, and pay the 18% service charge plus $5 delivery charge to stock anything in the fridge, which I found rather ridiculous. I've never stayed in a hotel with an empty minibar. The Conrad Indianapolis fully stocked their mini bar, so this perplexes me. The TV is hooked to a Bose surround sound system, which would have been great - if it worked. Our speakers were full of static, and after a call to the front desk, an engineer was immediately dispatched to our room. He simply unhooked the TV from Bose. I was given the impression that this was not an uncommon problem, so why bother to offer the Bose if it doesn't work? Also, on our last night we ordered takeout from a nearby restaurant, and found after the delivery person had already gone that utensils were not in the bag. Room service was happy to provide us with forks, but we had to pay a $5 delivery charge. Seriously? The room was upgraded to a high floor (15), with a city view, but the view was mostly of the HVAC units on an adjacent roof top several floors below, and a very close office building. Finally, while the wireless internet service is free, I had to re-log in multiple times per day, which was frustrating. Finally, at check-in the desk clerk noticed that my birthday was that same weekend, so I was hoping for maybe a small treat sent to the room, or even a discount coupon as a happy birthday. Would I stay there again? Probably not. If asked, I recommend other hotels in Chicago first, such as the Hotel Indigo, the Hilton on S. Michigan,or the Palmer House.

Room Tip: If paying for the city view, be sure you have more than just a high floor.
