Fantastic Hostel. Staff were so kind and enthusiastic, nothing was a problem. Activities were great, and being a single traveller I had no worries abut joining in, the staff were particular in ensuring nobody was left out. If I had the opportunity to come back to Chicago, I wouldn't hesitate to re book the Chicago Getaway Hostel.

The hostel was very neat and clean and had youth spirit. By this I don’t mean that people partied there all the time, but that the whole atmosphere was not stale. The personnel were super friendly, fast and efficient and available 24/7. My every request was addressed immediately.

The lobby had sofas and public computers with a printer. In the evenings Internet on them slowed down, but free wi-fi access on a laptop if you had one was working fast enough. The dining room with dining tables was adjacent to the kitchen and also had a pool and a foosball table.

In the kitchen you can cook yourself (all the silverware and cookware provided), store your food at either room temperature or fridge/freezer (you get a bin which you can label and a shelf space to keep it on).

Free breakfast was provided and included four varieties of bread which you could toast; oranges; bananas; butter, cream cheese and jam in small packages like ones you get on a plane; Lipton tea, coffee and fresh hot oatmeal in a cooker ready. The breakfast time was 7-9:30 am; checkout 11 am.

I got a half bath room, which had a sink and a toilet, and a bunk bed. The shared shower was down the hallway, kept clean. I only wish there was just a tiny little table in addition to the chair provided. Towels, sheets, blankets were provided, but you have to bring your own soap, shampoo and shower gel. If you are a light sleeper you might hear your neighbors since the building is old and I guess not that insulated, but that did not bother me too much.

Tenants are asked in writing (you have to sign an agreement when you move in) to promise they won't crowd in front of the main and also back yard entrance after 10pm. This is done to keep people in the neighborhood happy by reducing the noise since the hostel is located right in the middle of a very old-styled and rich neighborhood by Lincoln Park. The neighborhood is very safe. The hostel is in approximately 10 min walk from Fullerton subway station, which is a couple of stops away from the downtown area.

The hostel also has laundry and a variety of socials. They also provided information stand about lots of things you could do in the city. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: In my case the shared bathroom with shared toilets was pretty much on the other side of the building...

WE were enchanted by our stay at getaway hostel, our intial visit to chicago. staff was friendly and accomodating, making a couples room readily available, The abundant breakfast proved an ideal time to meet and mingle with a cross section of upbeat ethnic personalities from both Europe and Asia primarily, and we befriended young people from N. Ireland, Sweden, and Iran and learned of their career goals and impressions of our diverse US Culture. Lockers provided for storage on request and the nearby CVS pharmacy sells $23 weekly unlimited train cards.

The nearby Lincoln Park Zoo (free) is an added treat and the area is host to many theatres and other entertainment venues. Getaway's bulletin board posts the weather forecast and an array of daytime and evening sites of interest, including freebees. The rooms themselves are done in vivid color trim with a mod motif and avant garde decor.

CONSIDER THE GETAWAY AS SOMETHING THAT MAKES CHICAGO TRULY CHIC.

I stayed here for 2 nights. It's in a great area and close to the the metro. Hostel is immaculately clean, has great planned activities, awesome kitchen, outdoor patio, guitars to use and bikes to rent.

One problem was my room halfway down the hall on the 4th floor didn't receive a strong enough Wi-Fi signal to connect, but besides that two thumbs up!

This is a real gem of a hostel. I've stayed here several times and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and know their stuff about Chicago. There's a great information board with suggested activities for each day of the week and all times of the day and night, along with a large wall-mounted computer screen on which you can search for things, in addition to the other computers in the lobby. There's an organised outing most nights: one night to the Kingston Mines Blues Bar, another to a beer bust and another on a local pub crawl etc. The location in the Lincoln Park area is fantastic for getting around, with bus and metro stops very close. The area is renowned for its bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas and general social amenities, and these are all on the doorstep. Downtown can be quite quiet at night so it's better to do you sightseeing stuff down there during the day and then come back to an area where you have plenty of nightlife. The hostel has a state-of the-art kitchen, an outdoor BBQ area, a refectory, pool table and table football, a TV room, another separate lounge and even a baby grand piano. Breakfast includes cereals, hot oatmeal, tea, coffee, fruit, various breads and bagels. Saturday evening is the free BBQ and you can bring alcohol onto the premises and make your own party in the refectory at any time. This is simply one of the best hostels in the USA, in what is possibly the greatest city.

The hostel was taken over by a new company a few years ago and completely redesigned and redecorated in minimalist decor, so reviews from 2009 and before refer to the old, and pretty dreadful, Arlington Place Hostel, which occupied the same premises.

Room Tip: The location of the rooms depends on the type of accommodation you book. The short street is reside...

Not only was the hostel clean, comfortable, and stylish but the service was top notch. I had great conversations with the staff members and anytime I needed anything they helped me with a smile. I never had to look up directions because they were happy to help get me to my location. I got to meet some great people while I stayed solo for five days.

Room Tip: Great views from the 4th floor.

Can't beat the price, location, atmosphere. The hostel itself was clean, modern, bright and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We had a private room with half bath which was perfect.
They had a Saturday night barbecue and it was a chance to meet everyone staying there.
Definitely will stay again!

Room Tip: pay the extra bit to have at least a half bath!
