“Great Location! Good Prices!”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

While I did not personally stay here during my visit, I did have friends who did and did attend a workshop on location.

The location is great and central to all things Chicago and the rooms are typical Hilton Doubletree rooms.

The meeting space was good and the catered meals were outstanding!

Highly recommend either for a stay or a meeting.

I will review based on categories.

Cleanliness: Very clean. I did not see anything unsanitary and the room was cleaned daily, beds were made and towels and soap replenished.

Location: Great location. Walking distance to the Hancock Building, Navy Pier, Lake Michigan, Chicago River, Magnificent Mile ect. Subway (Grand-Red) was about a 5-10 minute walk and there are also bus stops right on the corner that go directly to the subway or anywhere else you need to go. Grant/Millennium Park is about a 15 minute walk. There is also a Dominick's grocery store about a 1 minute walk away that has any food or supplies you might need.

Room: Great flat screen TV with basic cable and I think Showtime. Beds were great, slept good. I could hear some street noise on the 22nd floor but there is an A/C unit in the room that puts out a nice white noise sound that drowns out street noise.

The hotel lobby is very nice and there is a bar and TV's there. The staff was friendly and there was minimal wait for check in. We arrived about two hours before check in but we were allowed to go check in and got our room right away. I also requested a room on the highest floor possible and the staff was happy to accommodate. There is also a Einstein Bros. Bagels on the bottom floor where you can get $2.00 large coffee and about $1.19 for a bagel in the morning. I didn't eat at the restaurant.

Bottom Line: This is not a Ritz Carlton but there are more than enough basic amenities and all of the most important things (cleanliness, beds) you want in a hotel are 10/10. If you want to stay in the heart of Chicago for a good price this hotel is recommended.

Room Tip: he higher the better. If you get a room facing south you can see the Trump Hotel and Sears Tower fr...

The welcome at this hotel is warm, and I’m not just talking about the just-baked cookie presented on arrival. Front of house staff were unfailing cheerful and helpful, and all requests were responded to in a swift and efficient fashion. My room on the 19th floor was large, with panoramic views of the cityscape and a comfortable window seat to encourage me to enjoy them. The beds (2 Queens) were amazingly comfortable with natural down and feather bedding making it difficult to get up! The room was equipped to a high standard, with a huge flat screen LG television, high speed wifi connection ($9.95 for 24 hours) alarm clock/radio/MP3 speakers, coffee maker with Wolfgang Puck coffee and organic teas, well-stocked (if rather expensive sensor-operated) mini bar, hair dryer and iron and ironing board. The bathroom was spacious with a long marble counter, providing plenty of space for make–up and wash bags and an enormous mirror. The fixed head shower over the bath tub was powerful and the semi circular curtain rail allows plenty of room to shower in comfort. The towels were large and absorbent, Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries were provided and the bathroom, like the bedroom was spotlessly clean.

The location, a few blocks from the lake and Navy Pier, and the northern end of the Magnificent Mile is superb, with excellent shopping and a range of eateries only minutes away. I can’t wait to return!

This is our preferred hotel in Chicago. Friendly greeting on check in, warm cookies, clean and comfortable room and accomodating staff , what more could we ask for. The on site restaurant,The Markethouse, serves an awesome burger made with angus beef and braised short ribs. We've tried other Chicago hotels when the Doubletree is not available but this is always our first choice, the others don't compare. The location is perfect for shopping and dining.

What a great place to stay on our first trip to Chicago! How can you not love getting a cookie when you check in?!!
We had a Lakeview Double which gave as a beautiful view and was spacious and clean. There is a snack center and mini-bar in the room which is quite expensive and also you must pay for the internet access but we knew these things going in so it did not come as a surprise. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable and we were not disturbed by any noise.
The location of this hotel is very safe and so close to many fun things to see. We were able to walk to Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue, John Hancock Observatory, Millennium Park and even from our supper at Lou Malnati's Pizza. There is also a 7-11 very close by as well as a Dominick's grocery and these were handy to pick up last minute snacks, etc.
The best thing about this Doubletree is the staff. Bartender Hilary gave us some great tips on the best places to see and places to eat and he also made a top-notch Bloody Mary! The concierge/bell staff was fantastic as well and helped us out with suggestions and plans. Steven was awesome, so friendly and helpful and gave us a great tip to stop in at Timothy O'Tooles which we did ....twice! It is right across the street and was a fun place for an evening out and also a terrific lunch on our last day.
Next time we return to Chicago, we will most definitely stay at this Doubletree!!

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room to help get away from street noise.

We arrived in Chicago early (prior to check-in) and assumed we would just check our bags in with the bellman. We had a nice surprise, however...we were able to check in early to a great corner room (2314). We had a nice view of the lake with a slight obstruction from other buildings-but this was expected, and we loved seeing the water in the mornings. We received our warm chocolate chip cookie - DELICIOUS! When we arrived, I decided I wanted to schedule a massage last minute. I called the concierge and expected they would just give me the numbers to a couple of places nearby. Well, they called around, found the cheapest rate (just steps from the hotel), AND booked it for me all while we were at Wrigley Field for a Cubs game! They had a nice card with all the information for me when we returned to the hotel. I was surprised by their effort to make our stay easy and enjoyable. The night before we checked out they also arranged for the cab to take us to the airport, and brought up the confirmation card to our room. Check out was just as quick and easy. The concierge and staff at this hotel is top notch!

The bed and the room were very comfortable. Since we spent most of time in the city, using the room for sleeping only, the size of the room was not an issue. It's larger than most city rooms we have stayed in before (i.e. NYC). You can tell its an older hotel, but I'm not sure why other travelers were bothered by this because the renovations are all done very nicely. Overall the hotel is fairly quiet. Our room had a connecting door, so I think it caused a bit more noise to come through, but it was minimal. Other than the first night (loud couple in the room next door - they checked out by the time I alerted the front desk, so no longer a problem), we had very quiet, considerate "neighbors."

Restaurants - All of the places we ate at for dinner were excellent. Ask the concierge for a list of restaurants that are nearby. They gave us a small brochure that listed the restaurant, the price range, and location. All of the following were within walking distance and ALL were delicious! For dinner: The Purple Pig (small plates; eclectic; MUST try the chocolate and cheese filled dessert-all very good!), Texas de Brazil (Brazilian Steakhouse; all you can eat; come hungry!), Japanese BBQ (fun experience; excellent service), Sayat Nova (Armenian; intimate and romantic setting). For breakfast: West Egg (traditional breakfast items; great service; great food; no wait), Yolk (trendy; delicious; great service; no extra charge for egg whites-not typical), Einstein (quick; efficient; and in the lobby).

I always visit the gym at hotels during my vacations. The gym at this hotel was a really good size for a hotel gym! Treadmills (more than 2) and ellipticals (more than 2), free weights, and a full weight resistance machine. Towels and water are available there as well. The outdoor pool was closed because it was too cold during our trip.

The hotel is just a couple of blocks from Michigan Avenue for some decent shopping. Cabs are almost always available near the hotel. We became pretty efficient using public transit (mainly the bus), and it is, no doubt, the most efficient way to travel. Get the 3-day unlimited pass - worked great for us because if we got on the wrong bus and needed to transfer, we did not have to worry about the balance on the card.

Overall, I'm not sure I could have picked a better hotel! For the price ($179/nt - AAA), location, room quality, and hospitality, this Doubletree HAS to be the best value in the area.

Room Tip: We were on the 23rd floor, and did not have any problems with street noise.

this place was overall a pretty good place to stay. yummy choc chip cookies upon checking in and room was decent. a bit older property but had heard they were doing renovations on the property. loved the pool area but it was very crowded and lots of kids yelling and screaming but i guess its what to be expected in the summer at a pool. loved the views around the pool area of the surrounding high rises. great location a few blocks from michigan ave and 4 blocks from the lake and navy pier. A word of advice...if you pick up the bottled water or snacks, they are on sensors and will add a HIGH charge on your bill. If you call the front desk if you (or the kids) accidently move them off the sensors they will reset it as long as you don't open them. definitly not a bargain! really enjoyed the einstein bagel shop in the lobby..convenient. also the elevators are SOOOOO slow...you will wait!

Room Tip: ask for a higher floor room for great views of the city
