Generous servings of classic barbecue. Ribs are excellent - half-slab is plenty. Sides (cole slaw, potato salad) could be better. Brisket is good.

Nice old family setting restaurant. Portions went down and prices went up with new owners a few years back. Unique tasty sauce. Famous for shredded pork and beef sandwiches. Many other menu items.

Disappointing. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was so dry and tasteless, no amount of salt or sauce could help. The bun, a grocery store variety, did not hold up, falling apart two bites in. The fries were very good while hot. Ambience: The decor is pretty basic with a western theme that reminded me of Ponderosa. Price point: $6.99 for the sandwich which didn't contain a whole lot of pork, and $1.99 for a huge serving of fries. Parking: plenty of spots in their lot. Service: no table service. You order and pay, and the wait for them to call your number. Would I go back? Possibly, but I would try something else; the ribs looked good $7.99 for a half slab.
I sort of felt they are running on nostalgia, as expressed by so many reviewers who have been going to Russell's since they were kids or teenagers

Disappointed. Not even average. I loved going here in the 70's. You could smell the smoker blocks away. Now not a hint of the smoker in the air. My pork sandwich today was inedible without extra sauce. It was dry, tastless and had a plain boring bun. No smoked flavor. What happened here? If this place did things like they did years ago it would be still packed. I could buy sliced pork at the deli and squirt sauce on it for a better meal.
Please bring back the old Russels!!

Russell's Barbecue on Thatcher is one of those places that is stuck in time. Not much has changed since I started coming here as a little girl. My favorite is the BBQ Beef sandwich. Piled high with beef, you smother it in Russell's famous BBQ sauce. Love it. Their coleslaw is not the usual mayonnaise style. It's vinegar based and very tasty.
