I went whales watching with a friend and decided to sleep there, so we would take the time to visit Yarmouth for the first time the next morning instead of driving back to Halifax the same day.
We were looking for something simple and cheap since it was only for the night and since we are friends, something with TV/DVD player and internet connection to have something to do during the evening.
When we got there, there was nobody since the owners and their son were working at their restaurant down the road. (not on the same property) Not a big of a deal, so, we went to the restaurant, and the owner said to go into unit #2, key on the table and TV not working… What?? not a good start. First of all, the owners knew that the TV wasn’t working. Wouldn’t you try to fix or replace it before we showed up? I would. Also, there was no key on the table but the lock doesn’t turn all the way anyway, so impossible to lock the door for the night.
Location was great, by a beautiful calm lake. Bonus, there was a 2 seats kayak. Bummer, the inside was full of water, there was no paddle and we can’t go to the reception because everybody is working at the restaurant. They have a beautiful dock but only 1 dry chair.
Back to the room, the TV turned on but the DVD player is not working. They advertised that they have satellite connection, so you would probably be able to watch a movie but they only get one French Sports channel that was unlocked for some kind of promotion from Bell. Other than that, nothing. So, no cable, no DVD nor Blue Ray (was also advertised on the confirmation but no Blue Ray Player in there).
We decided to call the restaurant later that night and asked if they could fix it or bring a TV but he was currently cooking for the guests at the restaurant, so impossible for him to do anything. We also mentioned that we couldn’t connect to the internet. He offered to come when he would have time but it was already 8 p.m., so no thank you. Who knows when he would have time?
The next morning when he saw we were getting ready to leave, (Check out is at 10:30) he came and apologized for what happened. Doesn’t change what happened. He also remembered that for the internet connection there’s a switch somewhere in the room to reset the connection. GRRR!! but was too busy to remember to tell us. It would be great if you could turn or reset that switch before we arrived. Worst case, put a note in the room.
So, bottom line, we chose that place for the amenities but they were not useful. You would think they would say, hey! We are sorry but we give you a $10 or $15 off because you didn’t get what we paid for. But no, here’s the receipt, please drive back to the restaurant and pay there.
We would not go there again and very frustrating that there is absolutely no service, help, nothing or that we didn’t get what we’ve paid for. I totally admire family that sticks together but if there are 3 of you to manage a farm, a restaurant and 3-4 bedrooms, you need help cause we are the proof that it is impossible to “customer’s service” everyone.
