Not sure what to expect since we knew this as a B&B, we chose to venture here after seeing some great reviews. It did not disappoint and it is clear why the place is in the Select Registry.
Our table was a romantic booth for two overlooking the river at sunset. Staff was friendly yet very professional. Definitely a place to take a special someone or to celebrate a special occasion.
The menu is very upscale and we enjoyed a corn chowder with chipotle flavored popcorn on top as a starter. The soup was thick and delicious. Salads were topped with a wonderful thin slice of garlic bread and had tomatoes, a hot pepper and mixed greens. My spouse opted for a specialty, the Beef Wellington, and said the beef melted in his mouth. I order the special, a pork tenderloin that was covered in a rub that complimented the meat without forming an overbearing crust. Beside the pork that was cooked perfectly, the dish came with brussel sprouts and a mashed potato that included among other things a finely chopped andoiulle sausage. Yum. Our only regret was that we had to pass on the artfully presented desert choices because we were so satisfied already.
The dining room is open to guests that are not registered at the B&B and they do take reservations. Blackjack Road which takes you there from downtown Galena can be very hilly and winding, but we enjoyed the adventure. I suspect that deer can be in the area after dark so caution may be necessary . This is a new all time gourmet favorite for us now. I regret we are not local to the area.
