Motel 6 Chicago O'Hare - Schiller Park
Ranked #6 of 9 Hotels in Schiller Park
Reviewed 25 April 2016

This is the third Motel 6 I've stayed at in the past 5 years and every single one of them has been so bad that my wife and I have agreed to never stay at one again.

First off, I chose this hotel for the fact that there was free parking for the airport. There however is no shuttle (fine, it makes sense given the price of the stay). The parking lot itself may be the brightest point of this review, it's newer asphalt.

-The lady at the front desk was decent given the few words spoken between us on check in.
-This is a pretty large/expansive motel 6, which results in upper and lower levels and a courtyard. The outside walls and sidewalks are fairly scroungy. I intentionally chose a handicap room because I anticipated that to result in a less abused room....apparently that isn't the case.
-The vinyl flooring still needed to be swept and properly mopped.
-The bathroom was nasty, the grout dirty everywhere, and there was either remnants of blood or red soda on the walls of the walk in shower.
-There was black pubic hair seemingly woven into one of the towels.
-The toilet looked dirty yet below the water level.
-The full size bed was super stiff and flat, as were the pillows, one of the most uncomfortable beds I've attempted to sleep on in a while. The white linen sheets were "pilled" adding the discomfort of the bed.
-The room smelled lightly of bleach, leading me upon first impression to think it was cleaner than it actually was.
-The Heat/air conditioner was surprisingly quiet and clean smelling, yet in the morning when we woke up there was a puddle at the wall beneath it even though we only ran the heat
-No continental breakfast, but it's a given being a Motel 6.
-They have a coffee bar but given all the above, it's not worth my time to even try it.
-The best part about the place is that upon entering their parking lot, the first impression is good enough to keep you considering it.

I don't try to be intentionally harsh, but my wife and I agree on all of these points 100% and I cannot recommend this place to anyone unless you're from a third world country where electricity and running water make a hotel a place worth staying.

Room Tip: Go anywhere but here.

Clean. New floors. Flat screen TV. Cable. Easy access to the Blue Line. Nice and knowledgeable local people. Friendly customer service. Right next to Denny's. She'll gas station is across the street. A nice reserve is less than a mile away for nice walks and picnics.

It was clean, seems to be new inside. The outside needs paint bad but so what? The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent, easy to get to the windy city. No complaints at all about anything.

Needed a place to stay the night before a trip and Rosemount was sold out so ended up here. Stayed at the 6 before and its been ok, this place was nice, looks blah on the outside but the rooms look new. Place was clean, quiet, and everyone was friendly to the point that it was kinda crazy, it was like I was the only guest and anything I asked they had an answer for. Kinda cool IMHO. It ain't the Four Seasons or even the Westin, or the Hamptin, but was pretty ok, specially the am girl.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the condos, although the hotel is under the flight path to ORD

When travelling with the dogs it is hard to find a decent hotel that will accept pets. We stayed here with our dogs and at no additional cost, which is very nice. This is a no frills property, but you get a clean room and beds for a very reasonable price. The local teens seem to use this hotel as a party spot, but it was quickly taken care of by the staff and local police without much if any disruption to the other guests.

Room Tip: First floor near the street for best parking

This place is good if you end up stuck at the airport due to snow affected cancelled flights. It is $20 in a taxi. Friendly, helpful staff at reception. Tip-ask about free WI-FI at reception before going to your room and then you will get the code for free WI-FI. We paid $77 for one stay on a Saturday. Booked it online with bkng.com. The room consisted of 2 double beds as we needed a twin room. It was ensuite with good power shower but cheap bar soap which did not lather very well. Room was cold when we went in but warmed up once we worked out how to use the heater-it comes on intermittently all night long and is a bit noisy.
USB socket for charging portable appliances is only available as part of the wall mounted tv- so you need to keep a channel showing with volume turned down all night if you are desperate to charge everything before leaving. No food on offer but there is a Denny's diner only 2-4 minutes walk away.
Taxi back to airport the next morning was ordered by reception staff and arrived within 2-3 minutes. Great for $77 basic stay. Wouldn't want to be paying much more though.
