Others are posting the same experience, so you know it's happening! We asked our driver to take us to a different restaurant that we had just heard great things about. He tells us it's full, but he knows a place we can get in. Brings us here. Sits in the back drinking and eating with the staff like it's a reunion... Not cool!!
The restaurant was busy, yes, but not packed. We get a server in good time , and order drinks. We place our order for eight people at 7:20. Over half the items listed on the menu are no longer available, but they do not tell us to choose another option for almost half an hour. Our drinks arrive in a few minutes , and we start talking. We did NOT see a server at our table again until 8:35. Our drinks were long gone, no refills coming, and the table next to us for four who were sat after us, have eaten dinner and gone already. One of our crew gets up and tries to talk to the server, who is clearly unaware we are still there. After 10 more mins, she comes back to take a second round of drink orders, but no sign of our food. After talking to the server a second time, we finally get our meals. When the food actually arrives, at 9:25, the portions are quite small, everything is bland and mushy, and the people who ordered the special with lobster have to strain to find it. We are pretty much the last table to get food for the evening, the band has left already, and they are closing.
We have been to Cuba before, and were not expecting the world's best food, but this was sub sub-par, even for Cuba. The kicker is that they would only accept US $ or Euros for the payment, and added a service fee to the bill already, so we had to tip. Personally, my meal was three piles of shredded beef, pork and chicken with a pile of rice, and with two local beers, my bill was $78.00USD?? Really?? I took a group of 8 for pizza at lunch, and our whole bill was less than that!!
Any cab driver who brings you here is NOT your friend! They have a deal with the restaurant, and you are paying for it!!
