Had a late lunch in Carmel and wanted a special coffee, not just a restaurant brew, and found Soho on Trip Advisor. Two great things would be that they were open until 4 pm on a Sunday! And the coffee was very good!! Smooth, flavorful, and good kick. Shouldn’t have been drinking coffee past 2 pm but it got me home and I am grateful. No pics but I’ll be back. The Art place next door looked cool and was packed.

Soho Cafe is a great alternative to the big coffee chain. The espresso drinks are quite good, and reasonably priced. They have a selection of breakfast and lunch food. As other reviewers have stated, the vibe is laid-back, so this is probably not the place to go if you’re in a big hurry. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is a connected room full of tables and chairs, more than the big coffee chain has in any of their locations, great for catching up on e-mail, having a meeting, doing homework, etc. The wifi is somewhat slow, so it may not work if you want to stream movies.

The area where you will find this great cafe/art gallery is in the shadow of the Palladium and City Center. It's the one area that has not been touched by the City. In the northwest corner of a U shaped strip shopping center, you will find this delightful venue.

This cafe has quite a "coffee house" vibe and it has been gaining in popularity based on my difficulty finding a table for four to have a meeting on a recent morning. You will find the cafe filled with some people working on their computers to high level city types having meetings. There are long tables, square tables, upholstered seating, art on the walls and fun things to buy like funny socks. Local artists have their art on the walls and available for purchase.

The coffee and tea are popular as well as sublime hot chocolate, fresh bakery items and other breakfast edibles life yogurt, oatmeal and fruit . When lunch rolls around try the Thai soup. Everything is made from "scratch" and everything that comes in for sale is locally sourced. You will also find salads and sandwiches. The atmosphere is very homey and comfortable; much more welcoming than some of the local franchises that have the "computer set" taking up tables, but lack the comfort physically and mentally.

Needed a double espresso fix and a four-fruit smoothie and we were not disappointed. The walk from downtown on Monon Trail is not difficult and will probably be even more scenic (and busier) once those construction sites on both sides of the trail are finished. Not sure how long Soho Café will continue once property values climb, so take advantage of it before it becomes replaced by a Starbucks - there is no indication that it will happen, just a nostalgic hope that it won't. Wonderful outdoor seating, and a free book box (drop off/pick up) located just outside the café if you need something to read while drinking.
