“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed at this hotel for a family retreat. The hotel looks brand new, and service is top notch. The room was very clean, with a few great surprises. Free WiFi was offered throughout the hotel. There was a mini-fridge in the room along with a rolling computer desk. The bathroom was very modern, although lacking a bathtub. Our stay came with a $10 per person breakfast voucher, that was put well to use in the bistro. The lobby bar was open until 10 pm and featured $6.50 cocktails which seems really reasonable for a hotel bar. Outside was a (gas-powered) fire pit with waterfalls. Completely enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a rear facing room to see the waterfall from your room.

The staff was very friendly. The rooms were very spacious and clean. They had an outside area to relax and sit outside.

We did a Priceline bid for a 3 star upscale hotel in Lafayette, IN. There were only three listed for the whole town! We were on our way to a family reunion and just needed a stopover. My first bid was accepted for $60 (should've bid lower!). This facility would best be described as a motel, but it has many hotel style amenities.

The hotel was less than a mile from I-65. The staff was friendly-ALL of them greeted us with a smile and a hello. Rather unusual in my experience. Lobby and lounge areas were well lighted, clean and up to date. The property is only 2.5 years old according to a manager. There is a courtyard out back, with seating and an artificial "stream". Again, very well-maintained and inviting. There's even a gas fire pit-though the 96 degree day didn't make that a priority.

The room was very clean and nicely appointed. There were marble countertops in the bathroom and a glass shower door. Ceramic tile was in the bath area. The beds were very comfy and there was an ipod docking station in the radio next to the bed. The air conditioning was remarkably quiet.

The fitness center had 3 treadmills and some stair climber machines. All were new and good quality.

The only drawback was the pool area. Apparently, this is typical for the Courtyard franchises. The pool is TINY! It looked to be about 12 ft. by 18 ft. The hot tub was also undersized, accomodating maybe four comfortably. It was also too cold.

There is also a bar and small restaurant off the lobby. Mostly snacks and smoothies are served, though breakfast is their main focus. The cost for breakfast-no freebie here-was $9.95 pp. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. However, there are several restaurants inside a mile that offer more choices at a beter price. We went to Bob Evans, a brealfast favorite in parts of the midwest and south.

Next to the front desk is a small selection of snacks and, oddly, frozen meals. The rooms have microwaves, but I've not seen a hotel/motel ever sell microwaveable dishes on site!!

If, for some reason-maybe to attend a Purdue U. event-you happen to need a room in Lafayette, this is the place. Note that we booked this place for $60/night!! The list on the major internet sites was around $100/night. We've found that we're often treated as 2nd class citizens when we do a Priceline bid, but not at this place!

Great value, excellent staff, near the Interstate, but not so near that you hear the traffic. Stay here!

Room Tip: Do a Priceline or Hotwire bid. Other than dates when there is a major Purdue event taking place, yo...

This was a very comfortable place to stay. There is a touch screen in the lobby and there is also a nice library/study place to read the morning paper. The room is very comfortable. I would have, however, decorated the room with less red, but the bathroom was beautiful and I loved the shower. Great stay overall!

Stayed here several times since the place opened - I think last year or in late 2009. Everything is new, clean, nicely designed. The 'Bistro' and the cool booths along the side is a nice touch in the lobby - though some of the food is merely reheated frozen junk. But other selections are good and it's nice to have somewhere to grab a bite at a Courtyard, which never used to be the case. Would have liked to have been able to purchase a cup of real basic hot tea - not herbal. Hate when places try to act all Starbucksy with the Tazo Herbals when all you want is basic tea. These are not the same beverages - they are very different - the restaurant should carry both kinds.
Hate, as always, lack of Coca-Cola products. When will Marriott learn that if it dumped second-rate Pepsi and trashy Mountain Dew, they'd do a far better beverage business and might even sell more food.
Rooms are clean, comfortable, exactly what you'd expect from a new Courtyard. Avoid the King room if you disdain Marriott's odd design of facing the bed toward the window. I Always find that disconcerting and make sure to request a room with two doubles.
The only major problem is a massive lack of water pressure in the showers. This looks like some sort of attempt at both luxury and water-saving. But the fancy rainhead shower-head disperses water so widely there's zero concentrated flow to actually get your hair clean. Also not enough pressure to invigorate anything. It's like a slow, limp trickle.
Gym is small but effective - decent equipment, fine for a quick work out. Good location near lotsa stores and restaurants and the highway, Bathroom towels could use an upgrade. Internet was spotty. Still even with all my criticisms I'd return.

Check in was uneventful. Nobody was overly friendly or took the time out to tell me anything about the property. We did notice a huge crowd of people hanging out in the lobby getting a bit intoxicated. What I didn't know was that these were parents of a traveling softball team. The kids were running amuck through the hotel making everyone who wasn't with the group absolutely miserable. I took my children to the pool and sat there to supervise as the rules stated. Too bad all parents weren't required to follow the rules. The drunk parents only came in periodically to joke with the unruly kids and then they hurried back out to their alcohol. We complained once and somebody did come in an inquire as to which kids were in there unsupervised. They then told the kids "no roughhousing!". As soon as they left however, the chaos returned. Another responsible parent went to complain. Then the group of rowdy's sent in an 80 year old woman to sit and be the "chaperone". A lot of good that did! She never once spoke up as these children splashed my smaller kids in the face, did handstands which resulted in another little girl getting kicked in the face, and overall just made it a miserable experience. Management was more worried about the large group of drunks being happy than they were the families who weren't spending an arm and a leg on their booze. The unsupervised kids continued to run the halls until late into the night. In my opinion, a good manager would have banned the unsupervised kids from the pool area until they could get someone in there to control them. The drunks should have been made to stay in the Bistro area, so they weren't blocking people trying to check into the hotel. I will never stay at this hotel again. Not impressed!
