Owner description: What makes a tour of the Haan Museum so memorable? The Classical Revival mansion was the Connecticut Building at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Many parts are from a 1760 Connecticut mansion. The Museum shows the best collection of paintings by Indiana's most notable historic artists, including major works by TC Steele, paintings of Native Americans by George Winter, Regionalist paintings. Spectacular paintings of Indians by Cowboy artist Martin Grelle line the double staircase. See major ceramics (like a swivel chair) by Indiana clay artists, and impressive American antiques, music boxes and clocks in a home-like setting. See website for special exhibits and tour schedule. Sculpture garden features over 25 Indiana sculptures along a wheelchair-accessible path. Nature trail winds through native Indiana trees marked with informational signs, and is is open dawn to dusk daily. Moderately challenging 1-mile trail crosses a ravine via bridges. Guests often report seeing several deer.

We arrived at noon, only to realize it did not open until 1pm...what a wait! Great works of Indiana art, Steele paintings, and awesome artifacts. Ellie is quite the tour guide!

This is a must see on your to-do list. Beautiful old mansion in Lafayette Indiana. This lovely home has been meticulously restored to its former glory. The tour will last about an hour and is well worth the admission price.

Thank you, Robert! We hope you'll visit again soon.

We're just putting the final touches on "Step into the Painting", a new exhibition that opens tonight. The 25 paintings depict activities of daily living from the late 1800's and early 1900's.

We appreciate the time you took to write a review.

I've been to the Haan Mansion Museum multiple times over the past several years. The building itself has an interesting history and adaptive use. I visited the museum when the Haan's still lived among their treasured paintings and ornate furnishings. They continue to participate in museum events and it is an honor to speak with them.
The Haan's were present at the Lunch and Learn presentation Hoosier Women Artists where 3 recognized artists who had works exhibited at the Indiana statehouse gave perspectives on the inspiration for their work. The speakers were excellent as was the box lunch. Everyone could order a deli lunch of their choice when purchasing a ticket for the event. The Haan Museum is a local treasure.

Haan Mansion Museum is more than a museum. It reflects a meticulously crafted and decorated lifestyle of the Midwest in the US that I was so excited to discover. Their collections include some best paintings of TC Steele and ceramic artifacts by other Indiana artists. There is a trail along some awesome sculptures outside of the building. It surely worths your a day of excursion when visiting Lafayette, Indiana.

Thank you, Sandra. We're glad that you enjoyed your visit.

The building is rather unusual for Indiana because it was originally the Connecticut Building at the World's Fair, and they used many parts from a 1760 mansion in Norwich, CT. We're thankful that the Potters bought it and moved it to Lafayette. It makes a wonderful place to show Indiana art!

The flowers in the sculpture garden (and along the nature trail) should be coming up soon, and we can't wait to see them!

We found the Haan Mansion on Trip Advisor and are so glad that we did! The home itself is stunning and the Haans have filled it with beautiful furnishings and artwork. They concentrated on Indiana artists from the Hoosier group and the T.C. Steele collection is outstanding, but many others are represented as well. Their collection of Indiana artists‘ ceramics is wonderful, but don’t miss the bronze and stone sculptures either. The rooms are beautifully furnished with antique furniture that has been carefully selected for quality and history.
If you have the opportunity to have Bob or Ellie give you a tour, you will not soon forget it. We spent over 2 hours there and are already planning to return soon because there is just so much to see.

If you go, don’t miss the Sculpture Garden in the back! I especially loved the work of Peter Rujawa who carves Serpentine into beautiful things!

My husband loves the Indiana artists but was truly entranced with the Martin Greele paintings of native Americans that is a surprise addition in this gorgeous house of Hoosier art!

Thank you! We're so glad that you enjoyed the Museum. There's a lot to see, and we try to tailor the tours to your interests. Our next special exhibition will have 30 paintings from the Haan collection, each depicting some activity from the past which has changed over time.

The Indiana ceramics were also surprising to us, and it was a lot of fun getting to know the artists.

Volunteers will be planting more grasses and plants in the Sculpture garden as soon as the weather permits (it's snowing again today, so it may be a while). We're also planning to have a lot of arts activities in the theater garden over the summer.

Everyone loves Martin Grelle's work. He captures the spirit of the Indians in a way that no-one else does.

Come and visit again soon.
