The Leavenworth Inn is an attractive, inviting home sitting on a bluff high above the Ohio River. My partner and I visited the Inn using a Living Social discount and were very impressed with our accommodations. We stayed in the second-floor English Rose room, which offers a fantastic view of the River. The very spacious room was well-appointed and featured a large, flat-screen TV and DVD. The bathroom was also well-sized; I got the impression that the Inn uses local soaps, which smelled nice.

Although there were several guests the night that we visited, everyone that we encountered seemed comfortable. The owner and her staff were friendly and full of useful information about the area. The common areas, including a sitting parlor, dining area, kitchen and den were very spacious and clean. I noticed that a few couples were sitting together in the main area and enjoying a movie from the expansive DVD collection. The Inn makes excellent use of its property, with three additional lodging cottages, paved trails for biking, walking and catching excellent views of the River. The nearby Overlook Inn offers a great meal as well as good drinks from Walter's Pub below (be sure to order a "River Rat.") Bikes and shuffleboard are provided at the Leavenworth Inn.

Some delicious fresh-baked cookies were available, as were coffee and tea. Soft drinks were also available for $1 (honor system). Although it wasn't gourmet or unique, breakfast consisted of sausage, hash browns with ham and biscuits, orange juice, coffee, etc. Various dining areas were provided throughout the main floor; my partner and I enjoyed our breakfast sitting with fellow guests at the dining room table.

Areas of improvement for the Inn include the need for an adjustable shower head in all rooms. I liked the size and comfort of the bathtub very much, but the wide-spray of the shower was unappealing. While the down comforter and pillows were cozy and relaxing, our queen-sized mattress was a little too soft for my taste. Both my partner and I experienced slight back discomfort when we awoke.

Still, I hope to return to Leavenworth Inn one day. This is a classy establishment with one hell of a view, situated in a charming, unique town. The staff is friendly, the area is quiet and the opportunities for relaxation and romance are great. Have a good time.

Room Tip: English Rose & Morning Glory have great views!

My boyfriend and I spent a 1 night weekday stay at the Inn at the end of March as a quick get-away and it did not disappoint! Our room was the English Rose which did in fact have a lovely side view of the Ohio river, as advertised. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean and cozy. Immediately on check-in the inn keeper offered us warm cookies which were delicious. She also quickly found us warm blankets to sit outside with. It is a beautiful area with all the quiet granduer expected from a small country town. Even though the weather was cold we enjoyed sitting in the gazebo and taking in the sights and sounds of nature, complete with a heard of grazing deer who came a stones throw away! Also if you get tired of the natural wonder every room has free wireless internet, cable complete with HBO, an impressive DVD library and large flat screen TVs.

While touring through the northern states. We were after somewhere to stop around the Louisville area, with our 12 year old son, while we visited 'Holiday world' theme park. I stumbled on this establishment while looking at the maps of the area. We usually stop at major 'Chain' hotels when we are vacationing in the states so this was very much a break from the norm for us. I have to admit that I was a little concerned about whether we had made a bad choice. I need not have worried. The bed and breakfast is charming. We stopped in the only twin bedded suite which was clean and well presented. The more 'romantic' rooms for couples, without children, look great. Breakfasts were freshly prepared and varied daily. Yes its a little off the beaten track and there are perhaps only two local restaurants in the immediate area. The 'overlook', which stands high on a hill and looks down on the Ohio River below, was very good. There are a number of good tourist attractions in the area which are easy to get to. This place would be great for a long weekend for couples and I guess familys who want something a little quieter. This BandB more than served its purpose on our trip.

My husband and I just spent a night at the Inn celebrating our anniversary. It was our first stay there, and I reserved the Gardenia Room in the Gardener's Cottage. The room was large (bedroom, sitting room, and bath) and the the bathroom with the beautiful clawfoot tub was great. We liked the furnishings and hardwood floors. Not a spectacular view, but nice just the same. We had a front porch with wood rockers that we enjoyed- and we were a bit surprised to return from dinner to find other guests using them! Seemed a bit rude to us, but they didn't stay long. I am sure many would find the area too quiet and boring, but we loved the peace and quiet. We had been in Corydon the day before (about 20 miles away), and we also toured the Squire Boone Caverns there. It is a pretty good little hike back up the spiral staircase from the bottom of the cave, so be prepared if you are not somewhat in shape.

All in all we enjoyed the Leavenworth Inn. The receptionist was friendly, breakfast was fine, and they do have tons of movies if you enjoy watching those in the evening. There is also a common building with a small but nice fitness room (stairclimber, treadmill, weights), and a nice family room with a large flat screen tv. Fresh coffee is left outside your door in the hallway around 7:00 AM - I thought that was a nice touch.

We stayed in the Holly Room, which is advertised as having a view of the Ohio River. The room was actually very nice -- it was very large and comfortable but really had no view of the river since the Inn is on the land side of the highway and the trees were full of leaves. The room was clean when we checked in but the most important thing is that you have to let them know that you want your room cleaned each day! After we checked in we noticed a door hanger that said "Check Room" (or something like that) on one side and "Towels Only" on the other side. When we left for our day's activities we did not use the door hanger, assuming that someone would come in and at least straighten the room. When we returned at the end of the day, the room was exactly as we had left it. Apparently if you do not use the door hanger they will not do anything, but we were not told that on check-in and we even specificaly asked if there was anything else we should know about the facility. A big disappointment! The common facilities such as the den, property with walking path, deck and tennis court were very nice. The Overlook restaurant which is across the road has mediocre food but absolutely incredible views up and down the Ohio River. The $6 voucher for breakfast might not cover the complete cost of a full breakfast but it comes close. Would recommend this place with the requirement that room cleaning is either done automatically or options are clearly identified to clients.

My husband and I stayed at the Leavenworth Inn for two nights, and found it to be a lovely, relaxing environment. For the first night we appeared to be the only guests; there were two more couples on the second night.

Although the inn itself is beautiful and very well taken care of, it is extremely impersonal, with almost no service. There was one staff member at the property when we arrived on Sunday afternoon, and we seemed to be inconveniencing her with our check-in process. She did not offer much information and pretty much just took our money, handed us our keys and left us on our own. We ventured out of the property for dinner, but had a very difficult time finding restaurants in the area. There is the Overlook Restaurant across the street, but it seemed very busy and since we had breakfast included there for the next two days, we wanted to try something different. The area immediately surrounding the inn is very rural and doesn't offer much in the way of restaurants.

We were also very surprised that upon returning from our full day out on Monday that our room had not been cleaned. Apparently maid service is not included in the rate, which seemed odd. So we helped ourselves to clean towels and emptied our own trash. Not really a problem, but quite disappointment a just the same.

All in all, though the property was very nice, we would not travel such a great distance to visit again.
