“ADA Approved cabin has great setting;could be better with a few updates”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2010

The ADA approved (handicapped accessible) cabin at Turkey Run makes it possible for my husband, who's in a wheelchair, and me to enjoy get aways at this lovely Park. The cabin has a small kitchen, living room, bedroom and bath and offers a wonderful view from the deck of a wooded ravine. The setting is private, quiet and restful, exacting what we need. (This was our second stay in the cabin.) The queen-sized bed (a king-sized bed would be better) is in need of updating with a firmer mattress. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our situation. The cabin could be made much more convenient to the main lodge and dining room (that is, navigable by a wheelchair) if the service road between the two were paved. As it now is, I'd have to help my husband into the car, pack his wheelchair, find a place to park closer to the lodge, unload the wheelchair, help my husband back into his chair, and do all this in reverse just to eat in the dining room. I got us carryout instead. Thank you for considering this request!

I have been coming to Turkey Run since I was a little girl, but hadn't stayed in the lodge for several years. I was very impressed with the remodeled room we stayed in. It was a bit small, but we didn't spend much time in there anyway since we were there to hike all of their beautiful, amazing trails! (There are larger rooms available). The room was very nicely decorated with an outdoors theme, the bathroom was just the right size and was very clean, the TV is nice & new and we appreciated the in-room coffee & free wireless internet. We will definitely be going back before the summer is over!

Turkey Run Inn & Park are like staying a world away. The Inn atmosphere is rustic with all the modern conveniences. The rooms are smallish but comfy & adequately appointed. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room though. The trails are outstanding & there is a trail for just about any level hiker. The views are really phenominal. After an afternoon hiking the trails the restaurant is a welcome treat. The food is always good & 'homestyle'. & the service is good as well. Relax in a rocking chair on the upstairs porch after dinner where the birds & squirrels put on an evening show. We have visited Turkey Run for the last several years when we come up for the Indy 500. We have made it an annual trek from South Alabama & plan to continue our visits in the future. Besides, we have a few more trails to conquer & lots more covered bridges to find!

We stayed for two nights at the Turkey Run Inn during the Covered Bridge Festival. The room was clean and appeared to have been remodeled fairly recently. It was a little on the small side but did not feel cramped. The food at the resturant was only so-so but there are not very many alternatives. The start park has many wonderful hiking trails. The only problem I had was that the moderate trails frequently could only be reached using a portion of a difficult trail. I would definately return to Turkey Run. I would not attended the Covered Bridge Festival as it is just a gaint flea market. Very few people were actually at any of the bridges which are beautiful during the fall.

We loved our stay in Turkey Run State Park, but the inn was disappointing. The outside of the building is beautiful, but our room was just average. Throughout our stay, we noticed a strange odor in our bathroom. It reminded me of stale, cooked cabbage. Later I smelled it in the lobby, too. We had to wait in line for every meal, even though the dining room was rarely over half full. October is "premium" season for them, so we paid top price for the room. When you look at the inn's website, it is hard to tell how much you will pay on a weekday in October but I found out later that the whole month is considered "premium" price. Furnishings in the room looked worn. Staff were very pleasant and helpful overall. The food was about what we expected for a place like this. We would stay there again because there is no substitute for staying inside the park, which is absolutely stunning. There are not many other options in the immediate area, anyway.

We enjoyed our 1 night at Turkey Run. Went there on a church retreat October 2/3 2009. Very accomodating staff to our group of 12. Reservations were made and honored for dinner at the restaraunt without hassle.

Rooms - a little small, but quite adequate and the bathrooms were likewise. I loved the decor of the whole place, but the rooms were really charming with the lodge-like feel. Not really rustic, but lodge-like. VERY CLEAN. I was not afraid to walk barefoot on the carpet. Newly remodeled of course always helps for an overall good feeling about the place and appears clean. Special note - they use actual room keys! But it is very secure.

The Den - my favorite feature. not sure if they call it that, but a large room just off check-in area and had TONS of chairs and couches and a great fireplace. Our group held meetings in there with no trouble or disruption to others. We used the tables for games Friday night. The game room is neat too, arcade, pool table and ping pong. Very cozy. lots of people reading books, papers, playing cards...

Restaraunt - Great. I appreciate that you could order off menu, or do buffet. I had sandwhich off menu which was good, husband had buffet. Soup and Salad was great. Nice breakfast buffet too!

Hiking around the place is varied and offers some for all levels. Nice nice area. We live in Dubois county, IN and it took us about 2 hours 45 mins driving to get there. Wish it was closer and wish it accepted pets. If they did, I'd probably frequent the place more often.

Staff was really nice and well trained.
