Motueka River Lodge
Reviewed 8 March 2017

We recently spent 4 days at this idyllic lodge which is the epitome of luxury, peace and tranquility. The setting in an extensive flower garden with views out over picturesque hills if nothing short of spectacular. There are several areas it sit relax and take in the views either in the garden, or in the elegantly furnished guest lounge. Flowers throughout the lodge, in pots and baskets on the veranda and in the the garden were a delight. It was lovely to sit on the veranda amongst the flowers enjoying a coffee and delectable home made cakes, admiring the view. Dee was a most charming, friendly and helpful host who couldn't do enough to maximise the enjoyment of our stay. Our suite was spacious, very comfortable with top quality bed linen and luxurious furnishings. Breakfasts were an a sumptuous affair thanks to the two delightful young French pastry chefs who baked a variety of breads, croissants, brioche each day accompanied by several varieties of home made jams, as well as providing a variety of cereals and cooked breakfasts if required. Dee organised a local fly fishing guide who ensured my husband enjoyed very successful days out fly fishing in this prime fly fishing location.

We were traveling during the busy holiday season in December, and were incredibly lucky to book a room at Motueka River Lodge. It is a quaint, charming house amidst beautiful gardens. Our experience was great from even before booking. We had issues with a third party booking website and we were able to sort things out with Dior very easily. We got upgraded to a suite on arrival, which was luxurious and very comfortable. The hospitality was amazing- Dior is a lovely, gracious host. The breakfast is delicious, fresh. The lodge is decorated by beautiful fresh flower arrangements in every corner. We initially did not opt for dinner at the lodge. For our second night, we ended up changing our minds--since we liked the lodge so much, we did not want to leave the premises for dinner (and the food was great!). Our dinner was set up on the patio overlooking the beautiful gardens and landscape of Motueka. Though expensive, would recommend doing dinner at the lodge at least once. The Lodge was a great launching point for seeing Abel Tasman National Park on a daytrip. We only stayed 2 nights, but wish we had time to stay longer.

I stayed here with my boyfriend and we loved it! The grounds are beautiful, with a well-tended organic vegetable garden, fruit trees, flowers, plenty of birds, and it's all surrounded by awesome mountain vistas and rolling hills. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well decorated. The lodge is small, with no more than 12 guests at a time, giving the property a very intimate and exclusive feel. The host is wonderful and made sure all of our needs were taken care of. Nearby wineries and hiking made for exciting day trips. This was our first stop in New Zealand and it will definitely be hard to beat!

Room Tip: All rooms are very quiet with great views. There is a cute 3 bedroom cottage that would be perfect f...

We are a French couple and we spent some great days in the lodge. It was really peaceful. We enjoyed the beautiful garden and the view of the valley. The lodge is a high standard and we had a warm welcome. We recommend this place to spend some relaxing days and don't forget to eat some dinner there : the food is just amazing! We really enjoyed the white bait patties!
