Food was overall very good. Excellent sides with creamy coleslaw and wave fries. Sampler platter started things out in a great way. Burgers and chicken sandwiches both excellent. Service very friendly but tad slow. Not to worry there is cold beer and lake view.

Returned after a few owner changes, we returned. Great location on the water, outdoor seating, staff which was really hustling to get things done. The menu was appetizers, sandwiches and breakfast. We had a super waiter/ bartender. Blake added his own pizazz! Peel and eat shrimp were yummy as was the Italian beef. Lots and lots of tvs, best of all great music being pumped in. I would imagine this place gets hopping on the weekend. A most enjoyable evening.

This place is hard to find. You definitely have to want to dine here to come here. There will not be many serendipitous trips leading you here. Located fifteen minutes north of Monticello amongst the home lined lake and river banks is the Sandbar restaurant. The building which it is located in is surprisingly spacious. Inside of the restaurant is a play area with fish and sand (hence the sandbar). We have dined outside and inside of this establishment. When you dine outside you can opt to belly up to a seating area right over the Tippecanoe River and watch the river traffic. It is a busy stretch of river leading into Lake Shaffer. We found that option to be quite enjoyable waving at the watercraft as they go bye.

The food is inexpensive. The quality of the food is fair. We have found nothing to rave about here nor have we found anything to complain about. They tout there burger as the best in Monticello and are supposed to have great pizzas. WE cannot affirm their claim on the burger (think there are better elsewhere). We have not tried their pizza (perhaps next time). Drinks from the bar are served in plastic cups but we did not mind.

This is a cheap place to eat on the water! That in itself makes it unique. The food is unimpressive, yet for the setting its worthy of a trip. We will be back.

It might seem a little rough around the edges but it has heart, the staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. Always make it a point to come here and give them my business rather than taking it into town. The staff is always happy to serve. Glad to see the owners make a go of this place. It is definitely nice to have on the upper lake.
