Enjoyable way to spend a couple hours. Trails were well marked. Beautiful views, and very scenic. Would go again.

Nicely maintained park with great views over the Mississippi. Well documented history in the education center. Trails are well marked. Enjoyed seeing some restored buildings and artifacts. Unfortunately, recent rains made a couple of trails inaccessible. I recommend going in the Fall or spring, when the temperature is not as much of an issue. The wooded areas are very still and, with additional moisture, the air was dense. Still, we enjoyed what we saw.

The Mines of Spain area are a little off the beaten track, but still minutes away from the downtown part of Dubuque. I primarily went there to hike. Near there, I noticed a quarry dug out of a mountainside. Quite colorful geology there. Also, it was a lumber operation of some sort. I viewed it from the road.

Living here in Dubuque, people tend to take for granted the amazing natural beauty we have right here in our backyards - we were one of them, until the past several years! The Mines of Spain is one of the most spectacular places in our area! The hiking trails during all times of the year, kayaking, picnics, history, exploring, wildlife, nature, etc are all highlights. We travel all over to find places like this, so it is incredibly awesome to have access to it so close. We now make exploring in the Mines part of our routine, and it never gets old. If you haven't treated yourself to a visit, do yourself a favor and get there!

My wife and I wanted to get some exercise while staying in Dubuque for the night so we went to the mines to do some hiking. The bugs were a bit annoying but the trails were well marked and had been kept up. There is also some interesting history there.
