Review of Sunset Zoo

Sunset Zoo
Reviewed June 25, 2017

As you enter the winding path to begin your adventure your greeted by a variety of sounds. Admiring each enclosure can sometimes be an eye spy game for the shy animals, but you are rewarded by their beauty once you spot them. I personally enjoy Earth Day at the zoo! The kids enjoy the activities and knowledge gained from every type of interaction. When you hear the calls of roaming peacocks you might just think your in the movie "Up," trying to find Kevin. Please do not try to feed them chocolate or see if they enjoy tennis balls! Make sure to stop by Manhattans hidden gem!

We expected this to be a small zoo, but we didn't expect for it to be quite as small as it is. We took my toddler on a weekday afternoon with only two hours until closing. Turns out we only needed 45 minutes, and that included getting food at the snack bar and sitting down to eat. Everything just seemed a little run down and sad. As someone who is mildly afraid of birds, it wasn't too much fun having so many peacocks just roaming around either. On the positive side, it was only $5/adult to get in. There are a lot of zoos in this part of Kansas; the next time we'll spend a little more money and time driving to go someplace a bit nicer.

Went here for the afternoon with friends and it was more than I expected! Exhibits had all the creatures necessary to keep our group entertained. I loved how the peacocks roamed freely calling to each other.

We love coming to this zoo so much that we bought memberships for our family and come about once a week. A quiet, small zoo, it nevertheless has chimpanzees (including a baby!), tigers, Amur leopard, and many other animals you would expect in much larger zoos. Almost never crowded except for the occasional theme weekend like Halloween which are a blast. Highly recommend the visit if you are in town!

The zoo is okay. It's nothing exciting. No elephants or giraffes (my daughters 2 favorites) It was neat to walk around though, pretty inexpensive.
