Of all the places we visited during our Viking Douro cruise, this one was my favorite. The setting was gorgeous, the owner/host/master of ceremonies was a hoot, and the food was tasty and satisfying, if not gourmet. We got to pet the winery dogs and learn a little about winemaking as demonstrated (very briefly) by audio-animatronic mannequins a la Disney. And did I mention the dancing?

We visited Quinta de Avessada in October, 2014 as part of an excursion on the Uniworld River Cruise on the Douro River. Our host was Luis, who manages the estate and hosts visitors. We were first greeted with a reception which included a band and of course, some delicious Moscatel wine. The grounds of the winery were just absolutely beautiful. We were just at the end of the harvest, so we were fortunate to have the experience of picking the grapes, and stomping on them. The band provided the music and motivation to stomp on the grapes, which was quite an experience. This was followed by a short presentation in the cellar, complete with a nice tasting of ruby and white ports. Finally, we were served a country feast, which which was accompanied by more of their delicious wines. At the end, the band came in and everyone danced around the room (as if we were celebrating the harvest). It was definitely a fun and unique experience. It seems like they cater to groups with these types of events, so I am not sure that you could experience individually. If you tour with one of the river cruise companies, I would recommend doing this in the fall, in order to have this unique opportunity.

Nice buildings, nice view. That's all I can say about this place. Very professional indeed. Food is not really recommendable. Can't really recommend this place

This was one of the best visits we had on our Douro Tour with Viking.

We were met by three musicians playing wonderful happy music, we tasted Moscatel wine and enjoyed the lovely views from their beautiful gardens.

We were then taken through into a beautiful conservatory building where we were entertained by our hospitable hosts and given lots of wonderful wines and great foods at lunch.

Plenty of music and story telling with sun a fun twist, they also got some of the guests up dancing which was great fun all round.

This was a fantastic visit, one we will always remember. We can dfinitely recommend this.

We visited here one evening as part of a Titan Douro river cruise. Firstly we were greeted by 3 musicians creating a wonderful atmostphere, who escorted us to a garden area for wine tasting and nibbles, from where we had beautiful evening views across the vineyards.
Our hosts took us on an interesting tour which included animated figures crushing the grapes, the barrels and talk on their business.
Following this we had a superb evening meal including wine in their restaurant. The tables were set out very attractively and the food was plentiful and delicious. Between each course we were told a fascinating local story to introduce the food.
The evening concluded with more music and dancing round the room with our hosts.
This was a truly wonderful evening and we would highly recommend it.
