We were a group of middle aged women(6 this time) staying down the road in Farnetella at Podere Pievina, a lovely authentically restored farmhouse from the 1700's, so we will always ask where the locals go for a night out to experience the best food. Oscar and Grazia, our villa owners, recommended this pizzaria which is much more than a pizzaria. And beautifully decorated and restored I might add. Make sure you get a reservation as it was always booked up. One night we did take away and drank our own wine that we had bought at local vineyards. Our last night we made a reservation and had the best appetizers of the entire 2 week trip which included eating in Vernazza, Lucca, Florence, Montelcino, Montepulciano, Cortona, and Pienza. The pasta dishes are to die for and for dessert we had the lightest tastiest cheesecakes I have ever had in my life. Love the humor in the name which means "smashing pumpkins". We drank a lot of wine on this trip and know our wines. The house red wine from the local vineyards was wonderful. The reviewer who called it "insipid" should not go back got to Tuscany!

A family restaurant with all the old favourites from the region and wine to match. Don't muck around, fast for the day then enjoy the full menu with local wine. Start with the Scroccazucche, a house special of starters, a plate between 2-3. From there it only gets better. And be sure to end with a Lemon liqueur. The building could be 200 years old in parts and beautifully restored.

Our group of 20 chose this restaurant close to our villa based on its TA reviews. We had made reservations a few days in advance so they knew to expect a large group. Well, I don't know if it was just the fact that we went in August (which is traditionally a time where Italians themselves go on vacation) and we had a substitute staff, or whether management has changed since previous reviews, but we had the worst service experience of our vacation at this restaurant. We were seated promptly in the terrace, but out table jutted up against a humming aircon unit. Waitstaff took our order but then mixed it all up, bringing secondi plates at same time as primi plates, and mixing up/forgetting some of our orders completely!
Also, they only serve house wine here: a fizzy white wine (not advertised as bubbly) and an insipid vinegary local red wine. There is no other wine list.
Pizzas were tasty, as were the few mains we ordered, but the shoddy service marred our experience. The saving grace was an organized more-experienced server who was finally able to correct and confirm our orders after our initial debacle.
I would not recommend this restaurant for big groups.

No nonsense pizzeria with plenty of other choices on the menu as well. Authentic. Friendly family. Good food. Dishes are well sized and a bargain.

This is the way it should be. Most of the restaurants in the popular cities are a joke! We came from Siena, on our way to Orvieto. Take it from me: skip diner in Siena and eat here!
