We loved sitting near the cliff enjoying an evening fire which was dry in spite of the rain. The folk art through out the interior was great. It was interesting moving around the cabin exploring it all. Overall it was a relaxing, rainy weekend with our dogs.
It was secluded enough that you could enjoy the peace and quiet, but close enough to local sites--Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge to get there easily. The four of us absolutely loved it. We sat out at the fire circle the two nights we were there. It rained the second night but the rock ledge protected us from the rain so we just sat there and talked and enjoyed the fire. I would love to come back. We cooked out both nights. You had everything there that we needed. My sister said she would use this cabin as a standard to measure other places by--she called it a "little bit of heaven". Thank you so much for letting us stay there!
Yes I would recommend it to a friend. If I stayed there all week I might need a washer and dryer though. The only thing we had trouble with was seeing the sign at the end of the lane saying something about Rocky Hollow Resort--mostly covered by tree limbs which made it hard to see.
My sister and I came from new York to witness the total solar eclipse. Big rock log cabin did not disappoint. We used it as our home base, Adding many side excursions . It was our favorite place to rest our bodies and souls.
The cabin was way more than we expected. The location of the cabin was super nice and the inside of the cabin was beautiful. This place is worth every penny. Highly recommended.
Five women friends spent five nights in this fine cabin. We were comfortable, secure and very happy there. The natural beauty of the immediate surroundings inspired us, and the quirky folk art that fills the cabin sparked interesting conversations. The common space is large and accommodating and includes a spacious wrap-around porch downstairs that made for wonderful gatherings.
Four of us slept in the two queen beds in the spacious loft — "the dorm," as we dubbed it. One feature that we particularly enjoyed was a small balcony overlooking the forest which had a screen door in addition to a wooden one. We slept with the door open and listened to owls at night and songbirds in the mornings. The upstairs bathtub, a large Whirlpool, is located in the same room as the beds, so there is no privacy in it. Those of us who wanted to use it needed to wait until everyone else was downstairs. There is, however, a private toilet in the loft.
Downstairs, there is a private bedroom and a separate, complete bathroom, including a tub with a shower. There was an additional sofa bed in the living room.
The cabin is not suitable for those who have difficulty climbing or who use a wheelchair; there are several steps up to the front porch, and more again to the loft.
When we are together we cook a lot, and the kitchen had everything we needed except a grater. A good supply of spices and herbs was on hand when we arrived. The cabin was comfortably clean. Some of us had cell service, some did not (no AT&T). The wi-fi was good and we used our computers for web searches and FaceTiming while we were there without problems.
This is lovely place, and I would definitely stay there again.
