“Just Perfect”
Reviewed October 18, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We rented windy corner cabin to be in the heart of the gorge for a 3 week climbing trip with the added bonus of being able to climb at the amazing 'torrent falls'. The grounds of the cabin are just breathtaking - 2 minutes hike and you can find the waterfall or a homemade swing hanging from a rock face, it is like being on the set of movie.

We booked early (10 months in advance) and the reservation process was easy.

As a couple we stayed in the downstairs of the cabin which has a lovely open plan living/dining & extremely well stocked kitchen area with off shot bathroom and queen bedroom. Everything we needed to prepare meals was found in the kitchen - it was perfect.
We didn't watch any TV but there is one with a DVD player and 'Dr Bob' has a huge selection of films you can borrow if you like.

It got chilly during our stay but there is a gas fire and space heater to keep the cabin cosy. Wendy who manages the cabin did offer to bring more heaters but it wasn't necessary.

Dr Bob was very friendly and his little dogs are delightful. He shared some of his 'local' climbing info so we managed to escape the crowds most of the time. He also offered use the use of his laundry facilities but there is a new business close by that meant we didn't need to disturb him to keep our clothes clean.

During our extended stay Wendy (Red River Outdoors) was in contact regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. When we arrived the cabin was clean and we were provided with clean bedding and towels every week. We met Wendy a few days after we arrived, she was very friendly and again full of useful local knowledge she was willing to share.

The only downside to the cabin is that the loft has 2 double beds but they are not private from each other or the downstairs. Due to this cabin is probably better suited to a couple, a family or group of friends rather than 2 or 3 separate couples. It you are a group of couples try to book the 'climbers cabin' instead.

We have stayed in a larger cabin at one of the big sites in the area and it was nowhere near as well equipt or as idyllic as Windy Corner. Despite being close to the main road you put 'life on hold' when you close the front door.

For a climbing trip, family vacation or romantic weekend - Windy Corner is perfect. We are planning to come back to RRG and I am hoping we can book this cabin again but we need to plan early as the cabin gets booked up quickly and understandably so.

“A great place to lay back and relax with a glass of red or two!”
Reviewed October 16, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Perfect for our adventure holiday.
Smack bang in the middle of the climbing scene at red river. It has it's own private estate which is only available to the guests of Red River Outdoors. Perfect, no crowds here.

“Windy Corner is a fantastic place to stay in one of the most beautiful areas of Red River Gorge!”
Reviewed July 21, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

I have been traveling to The Red to climb since 2012. Windy Corner is my favorite cabin. The beds are comfortable, the cabin decoration is cozy, the toilet and shower always work perfectly with good water pressure. The hot water is available immediately. The room accommodations are very useful for a couple (using the bedroom) or for an extended family or with friends (two queen beds in the loft, and a couch that doubles as a full size bed). The cooking accommodations are also very nicely set up, in case you choose to cook at the cabin instead of eating out. Bed linens and blankets and towels are furnished. There are fans and an upstairs air conditioner for hot months and heaters for the cool nights of spring and fall.
Staying at the cabin also allows you to climb at Torrent with some magnificent routes.
It is very easy to register for the cabin, and the price is appropriate for the area.
I have stayed at the Climber's cabin, also at Torrent Falls, and a few other cabins in The Red. IMHO, Windy Corner is a fantastic cabin and adds to the wonderful experience of climbing at Red River Gorge. I would recommend it in a heartbeat to friends and family.

“Clean, Comfortable, Convenient and perfect for our occasion. EXCELLENT Experience.”
Reviewed June 25, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We picked Red River Outdoors at random as a place we found online that was within a reasonable driving distance from Michigan where I could take my 16 year old daugther and her friends for a little nature and a little adventure. The girls had a fantastic time with the guided climing. Craig and Wendy were both extremely helpful, professional and it's apparent that they take pride in their business and property. The area was beautiful. The cabin was clean and quaint. The accomodations were well thought out. Service was spectacular and I can't think of a single complaint. It was ideal and affordable for the type of experience we were looking for. All four 16 year old girls had a blast and that is no small accomplishment! We also loved Miguel's pizza and the Rockhouse for dinners out.

“Rustic, cozy cabin but wish it was further away from the road and road noise.”

Wendy and Craig were very pleasant and professional to deal with and were excellent at communicating and responding promptly. The cabin appeared just as it had been described. It was rustic and cozy, and the beds were comfortable. The cabin was easily warmed by gas fireplace and space heaters, and cooled by fans and AC. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, plates, etc... but I would have appreciated spices and salt and pepper being available! It was a tight fit for 4 people, so I wouldn't recommend trying to squeeze 6 people in. The couch/futon needs to be replaced and is uncomfortable to sit on. More comfortable chairs (and getting rid of the TV) in the "family" room area would be nice. You can hear everything that happens in the bathroom in the rest of the cabin, so make sure you only invite family or good friends to stay with you here! If the bathroom could be insulated/sound proofed or a fan installed, that would make a big difference. That being said, there was plenty of hot water for 4 showers back to back. The cabin has a lovely front porch, but it unfortunately looks out at the road (and you hear road noise inside the cabin). I had hoped for a more remote, mountain cabin experience. You are also expected to remove your own trash and take to a dumpster on Wendy and Craig's property which is about 10 minutes north, which while not a big deal, was slightly annoying when you are running late for the airport. One of the great perks of the cabin is access to the restricted climbing area Torrent Falls. It was nice to feel like you had your own "private" climbing spot for a day or two, but the climbs have not been maintained. Several of the bolts and anchors (especially on the 5.11 wall) are severely rusted and need to be replaced for climber safety. The hiking trail to the falls that goes all the way around the holler and follows the cliffs was beautiful. Overall I would recommend it if you are not bothered by those minor drawbacks I mentioned above.
