3 star delight. In a wonderful location

Review of Sedgebrook Hall
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 4, 2019
This isn’t a grand hotel it is however a very comfortable hotel to stay . We booked a late deal without food as we’d already made breakfast arrangements, and ended up eating dinner at a local pub whilst walking around Brampton.
Reception staff were very friendly, not your usual stereotype reception staff however very pleasant , efficient and we both found them helpful, the room was clean, comfortable and a good size, the grounds were lovely, we had drinks in the bar after our walk and the bar staff were very nice, while we were there it was mainly a lovely young gentleman that served my hubby, we woke early and used the pool, jacuzzi and sauna before leaving the hotel, we were able to use towels which are collected from reception. There are lockers to use however there didn’t seem a lot of keys . I had one because we were the only ones using the pool at the time, the shower in the pool changing room was good and there is a hair dryer to use there. I have stayed in better hotels but these were of a higher star rating so should have been better, however I’ve stayed in a lot worse that have been 4 star, I would definitely stay here again, we stayed whilst travelling to meet friends and split a long journey up. We actually said if we did this again we would try and book for a couple of nights, or even arrange to meet our friends here. . I didn’t take any photos of the room, I did however take photos of the grounds .. Well done to Sedgebrook hall staff

Stayed for a wedding function which was overall great. Rooms are functional, clean, well equipped and tidy albeit quite cool especially early evening/ night time. Decor in adjoining corridors is overdue some basic TLC but nothing that effected our stay.

Staff brilliant, very helpful, accommodating and knowledgable in particular the restaurant maître d' who went through every single item on the menu add hoc to advise on allergens for one of our party. We gave feedback on the day as this was very, very impressive and following morning they excelled and even have separate toaster for GF bread to avoid cross contamination.

Sadly that was it - down hill after that. The Wedding dinner was minus bread rolls for soup course, no gravy with dry chicken. No dessert choice except sorbet. Regretfully this spoiled the wedding dinner as the diner was either left out or ignored and had to chase staff constantly to find out if a course or food was coming or not.

Breakfast the following day was again without bread rolls or toast, no GF cereals whatsoever and a meagre offering of just water melon as the only choice of fresh fruit, tinned peaches and tinned prunes- which previous morning had been quite extensive. Given that they knew in advance of dietary needs (a health issue not a lifestyle choice I might add) we’re left somewhat confused as to how they could get it so right on the first 24 hours and by contrast so very wrong on the last evening/breakfast as they had set quite high expectations.

Reception happily took the compliments when it was right and further endorsed that the hotel was actually owned by a leading food company and as such, proud of its extensive knowledge and delivery of food items. Room service menu albeit due to change next week is very basic - basically just sandwiches @ £7.50 but be advised they carry a supplementary ‘tray charge’ of £5.00 which makes a sandwich in the room very expensive. Maybe pop down to the local pub and get 2x hot freshly cooked meals for same price?

This could have easily been a 5 star review, I presume they have freezers so GF bread or rolls shouldn’t really have been an issue-blaming the supplier for not delivering the bread rolls and your owned by a food company ? is unacceptable and must be embarrassing for the owners Compass Contract Services. How much time and effort to mix a little GF gravy ? takes me two mins at home! Fresh fruit for breakfast again it’s somewhat amusing it’s owned by a food company so no excuses.

It’s somewhat insignificant- but when family members are constantly discriminated against for their food needs, over what should really be a enjoyable and sociable dining experience, it totally spoils the experience.

Overall we loved staying there, the front of house staff are great. The visit marred only by supplies in the kitchen and poor communication ( they knew in advance of the visit) and ironically had it 110% covered first 24 hours which makes it more frustrating. Would we go back? absolutely yes! but maybe would call into the local shop on the way and take some GF rolls and some fruit just in case we arrive on an ‘off’ day

The name of the hotel suggests more than it delivers. The staff didn’t have their heart in their work and the room was dark and dated and shabby. Wallpaper starting to peel, tired furniture and the bathroom was no better than a heavily used public toilet. The room had thin walls and we couldn’t get warm enough to sleep. The duvet was insufficient and there were no spare blankets. The hotel does have more expensive rooms which you may be better opting for.

Stayed here on a Groupon offer and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the grounds were lovely and our room was very clean and quiet. We went to Castle Ashby Gardens which I thought was a bargain for the £8 entrance fee per adult pristine gardens in a lovely setting. We ate at the pub next door on the second night which had lovely views and a pond you could walk around and the food was excellent, all in all a very nice stay. Must mention all of the staff we spoke too who were all very friendly and welcoming.

Stayed as a surprise treat for my husbands birthday and really enjoyed our stay.
Hotel is described as 4* which we both didn't agree with. The room itself was 'tired' - as others have said, the bed was small, no air conditioning and very out of date bathroom but everything was very clean. Good to read they are carrying out a refurb and are addressing this.
Swimming pool was lovely - luckily it was quiet when we went in as it is small so imagine it gets full very easily.
We had done a deal for dinner, bed and breakfast and I have to say, the staff made the place. Everybody we interacted with was very friendly and should be commended for their service.
Food was good as well - limited choice for dinner, but everything we had was lovely. Buffet breakfast had a reasonable choice and was constantly re-stocked.
Would recommend for this part of the world - there is a lovely pub a few minutes walk away(The Brampton Halt) which might be a good place for lunch if staying more than 1 night.

We were booked in here because other places were full. The hotel is out in the countryside not much around except a pub about 500 yards down the road. The check in was quick lovely receptionist. The room was a bit like student accommodation but I do believe we were given the basic rooms more elegant rooms are available. It was clean and had everything need for an overnight stay. The bar was quite expensive for drinks but expected. The food we had was ok nothing special and expensive for what we got. Breakfast was very good and again a lovely receptionist to check us out.
I would stay again and make more use of the pool and gym next time.
