A Little Different!

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 13, 2019
A little different from what we expected! This place is like a large lodge attached to a golf course, the lodgings are made of wood, slightly smaller than the average hotel room, with quite thin walls.

The room itself is clean and presentable with parking directly outside. The walls are pretty thin though and you will hear the neighbours if they are noisy! You can also hear the kids heading back past your window after a few beers in the bar.

The beds are comfortable and there is a kettle with supplies of coffee and tea. There is plenty of greenery so if it's a nice day I should imagine a walk around the grounds would be pleasant.

The hotel has a nice pool but what we found annoying was that kids can not use it before 9.30 at the weekend. That's a pain because you don't want to swim on a full stomach (especially after having a fry up) and there isn't enough time to have a swim, eat breakfast and check out in the space of 2 hours. If kids could use the pool earlier then you could swim at 08:30, have breakfast at 10:00 and then check out at 11.

Breakfast was very good, a nice selection of cooked food, cold meats, cereals and bread. Coffee was tasty and the views across the golf course from the restaurant were very nice. The staff were all friendly and very pleasant with a fast check in and check out.

Not so much a hotel, more of a motel. Reception, bar and restaurant are in a separate block to the accommodation. The room is located in a block of ground floor and first floor. There are 2 blocks facing each other across the main road into the golf club. It reminds me of the motels you see in America. The entrance to the room is outside, through a upvc door. You've never seen so much double glazing. The room is SMALL. I would think a standard Premier Inn room is 75-100% bigger. It did us for the night, but I used my hotels.com free night to pay for it. I would have been disappointed if I had paid. On the plus side are the staff. Everyone is very welcoming and attentive. However, as it's a golf club, the guests/tenants (there are houses on site) can make you feel that you are intruding on their turf. Breakfast was good, the evening meal exceptional. Would we return-no. Would I recommend it, fraid not.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Staff argued with me and stormed off when we were left with no clean rooms. No resolution offered. Staff couldn’t care less. Dated rooms. Food good and pool good but honestly nothing else. If I could go back would never have stayed here. Be warned! DISGUSTING!

What a shame such a beautiful location is going to ruin🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
We booked a suite with breakfast and we were so disappointed there is a complete lack of maintenance and as for cleaning it’s very poor (we’ve stayed in many hotels/rooms over the years and unfortunately this is the second worst we’ve ever stopped in!!!)
Our first suite ASH was of a poor standard with the final straw been we couldn’t get out due to the lock jamming but eventually I got the door open.
Spoke to reception and they sent someone straight away but they couldn’t sort it so we moved to another room CEDAR next door with a working lock👍
This like the first was very out dated, dusty, stained, bed was well passed its life expectancy and every move made must of been heard below, we’re considerate to others but it was impossible to be considerate even the toilet flush screamed !!! Personally I can’t see these rooms been up to latest fire standards & the balcony didn’t seem safe either.
The club house wasn’t much cleaner either.
Good Points - Staff, good & drink & great views of the golf course
I always go on TripAdvisor but for some reason I didn’t with this one and deeply regret it.
The location is fabulous and this could be a great place to stay but it all needs some serious investment!!!

Myself and my partner stayed here for one night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I must admit that the room was quite outdated but it was definitely clean and if some outdated curtains is going to ruin your trip (like some of these other reviews) then that’s a real shame! The staff were lovely as was the pool and facilities. Just be aware of swim school times! Unfortunately we had to cancel our booking in the restaurant as they seemed to have another function going on and had just honoured our reservation by sitting us on the edge of the function... this was quite disappointing however we had a lovely bottle of wine at a very good price, then jumped in a taxi for Miller and Carter up the road which was lovely! Please don’t take all the horrible reviews on here as gospel. Admittedly not perfect but we left happy!

The room was tiny and cold- despite it being a warm day outside! The walls were unevenly painted and had stains all over them- so did the bed sheets- not pleasant at all. This was our first wedding anniversary trip away and we were SO disappointed. So much so we decided we couldn’t stay the night- on hearing the room above us arrive stomping loudly across the floor and flushing a toilet of which the sound went straight down beside our bedroom we concluded we were not going to get the peaceful night we had hoped for. Quite frankly this was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in, worse than student digs even!!! We left within two hours of arriving and will not be going back! Do not book this hotel- the pictures are incredibly deceiving, not three star and not worth the money we paid 😡
