Description: Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant's design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It's in this setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It's an experience your friends and family will not soon forget. The 17-mile journey from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You'll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century old oak trees. The restaurant's Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was. Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffee, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Grilled Redfish and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant will tempt even the most timid diner. We look forward to your visit.

Must order the golden fried shrimp poor boy features wild-caught shrimp from the Louisiana gulf. Service is good also.

This place is adorable! It reminds me of a lodge in the bayou! We sat at our the windows overlooking the pond at sunset! Beautiful and fun to watch the birds and alligators in the Swamy pond! The wait staff was helpful and even though the restaurant is upscale it was kid friendly with a kid menu! We ordered a variety of dishes : salmon, soft shell crab, ribs, bbq shrimp and a kids cheeseburger. All adult meals came with a salad and a side and the food was presented very nicely! It was tasty and the portions were generous!

I made two trips here in the past two weeks and I will return. The staff is excellent and the ambiance is relaxing. There is an alligator or two who live in the bayou behind the restaurant and you ca often see them swimming around the water. The soft shell crab and salads are excellent. The shrimp is excellent. The gumbo is mediocre. It doesn't have the usual flavor that one would expect with a Louisiana gumbo. I think it needs a bit of improvement, but that is a personal thing, perhaps others will like it. All portions are ample, but the nicest thing is that it is a comfortable and friendly restaurant and we will continue to return when we visit the area. For dessert we shared a delicious pecan pie. They also have beignets with three dipping sauces and these are yummy too. You cannot go wrong with their cappuchino to accompany your dessert.

We came here as part of a swamp tour deal. The menu was pre fixed but we had our choice between a few options. So we were able to customize our meals that way. Everything was delicious and our group enjoyed our time there.

Great food and service tucked in the Louisiana swamp land. Awesome atmosphere. Pricing is on the high end but the food is delicious.
