Lost in countryside, very quiet.
Our room was a bit strange, look for a sport team (2 bathrooms, 4 showers) but comfortable.
Pool dept was very low, looks like a child pool.
Staff is friendly but breakfast is a bit poor and dinners always the same.

Stayed: July 2017

Our family holiday at Far Cry was one of the best we have had. The staff went all out to ensure we had an amazing holiday. From the spacious, clean rooms to the wonderful food, everything was perfect. Thank you.

Far Cry Resort was a shock after visiting some of the other hotels on our Sri Lanka Safari. The road to the hotel was a dirt track and very very bumpy. Took us about 15 minutes to get from the main road to the hotel. The hotel itself is set within beautiful fields of mango trees and lots of other food producing trees or shrubs. It is very rural, a farming area. On going up to the reception desk we passed gardens that really required some work. They were overgrown and neglected. Few staff were available to see to us and we looked like the only guests.

Our room was very basic but had the necessities required for your stay including a safe which surprised us. The bed was standard not uncomfortable but not comfortable either. The pillows were terrible. Very low and no support what so ever. The room was clean and tidy.

We were informed that there was hardly any choice for meals it was vegetables and rice or vegetables and pasta. Only dessert was ice cream. Breakfast was similar toast and jam. Our guide informed us this was the first time they had stayed at this hotel but would report back to his company.
Such a pity as the location was lovely for bird watchers. There was a walk down to the river through the little village. This we did an really enjoyed the change. Saw lots of land lizards and birds. Watched them taking the sand out of the river for redoing the roads. hence the terrible road down to the hotel.

We found out later that the Resort was in the middle of management changeover but that still didn't or shouldn't have a allowed poor maintenance and service to guests.

wifi was available in the rooms.
When it came to paying the bill we were informed that it was 'cash only'. On protesting they did go and get a machine but it wouldn't work. paying cash caused a small upset but luckily we were able to do this. Had to visit a bank on leaving the premises.

The staff we saw were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances.
The prices for drinks and we had laundry done were a little pricey to say the least.

If the new management maintains the gardens, refurbishes the rooms and ensures choice of food on the menu then I am sure it will take off again as the surroundings are lovely.

Would not recommend at the moment.

Farcry WAS a great place when I visited it in May 2013. But not now..
The reception is good the rooms are the same, clean and comfortable. The toilets lacked toiletries this time.
The breakfast was a disaster..String hoppers, Toasted bread Dhal curry , Omlette.. Nothing was tasty or cooked well. Even the toasted bread and the omlette .... The lunch was the repeatation of the breakfast. The same Dhal curry served for breakfast was served for lunch also - with fried rice . We did not eat anything properly and had to have the whole days food at Longten chinese restaurant at Ambepussa where they served excellent food.
Whole day of starvation. Will have to find another place in Wasgamuwa.

I have never posted on Tripadvisor before, but after returning recently from Far Cry I am compelled to do so! I stayed at Fry Cry with my daughter and I have to say it was one of the most pleasurable stays I have had. Tucked away in a simply idyllic location, surrounded by banana trees, chirping birds and the occasional peacock rushing past, you just can't help feeling one with nature.

The General Manager, Mr Indika who did his very best to oblige our every request, has assembled a great team of people and they couldn't have been more courteous and polite., catering to our every need. As for the food....absolutely delicious. Chef Senadeera's dishes, both Sri Lankan and European, were simply outstanding, complemented by the outstanding freshly baked breads, pastries (including croissants), desserts made by the very talented pastry chef....I was in heaven.

I would not heistate to recommend this gem of a hotel to anyone!
