“Best Restaurant in Blue Hill”
Reviewed 12 August 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Blue Hill Inn in Blue Hill, Maine for 5 nights and could not have been more pleased. From the gracious, helpful staff, to their meticulous attention to detail, the comfortable beds, and of course, the FOOD - it was a fantastic experience. We ate at the best restaurants in the Blue Hill area and were delighted to find, on our last night, when we ate at the Blue Hill Inn, htat it was by far the best. The breakfasts are to die for, and the dinner is nothing short of superb. Inventive and fresh cuisine, and a hospitable staff, with well appointed rooms and comfortable common areas make this a memorable stay in Blue Hill.

My wife and I spent a lovely weekend in Blue Hill, Maine at the Blue Hill Inn. The inn was charming, the inn keeper was personable and the other guests were friendly and interesting. Our room (#7) was on the small side but well appointed, air conditioned, quiet, and very clean. The dining roomand food were fabulous. The town of Blue Hill is very low key compared to other seaside towns in Maine like Ogunquit or Bar Harbor. Dinner at the Boatyard Bar and Grill was lots of fun. We brought our own kayaks and kayaked in the tranquill bay, out around the islands and the moored boats, and the seals. We also took a day trip down to Stonington, about 20 miles south, and kayaked out of the working harbor there to the many many islands just off shore. We also did a 20 mile bike ride out of Stonington, which was a little precarious, as the roads were curvy, hilly and had no shoulders. The side roads (some dirt) down to the various coves were much better, and much more scenic.

A lovely and well-maintained little inn, with a friendly, gracious and accommodating staff. The Blue Hill Inn is just big enough to feel like you're not staying in someone's house, and small enough to feel like you've found a little gem. I stayed in a sunny room with a pretty toile wallpaper and a vest pocket sized bathroom, but it was perfect.

Sarah, the innkeeper and owner is the consummate professional.. She handled our requests at the outset and helped us access many of the neat features of the area. She was conscientious in helping me deal with a seafood allergy and the food is wonderful. We highly recommend dining at the inn if you can. The meal was one of the highlights of our trip over two weeks. Sarah dealt with all our requests for area information and went above and beyond the call of duty in providing maps, information and suggestions. We felt like we had stayed with a close friend of the family. Breakfast is terrific too. This is a great alternative to the more commercial Bar Harbor area, yet close enough to access Acadia National Park and other attractions of the area.

What a hospitable Innkeeper/host with very well maintained property, inside and out. The friendly welcome set the tone, which was maintained over happy hour. Prior arrangements prevented us from dining, but we were tempted by an after dinner dessert and wine, which met all expectations. The breakfast was equally excellent. We stayed in the loft (queen main room, 2 singles adjoining), good linen, toiletries, etc. and not a thing to fault.
The Inn and the town seemed to be a very interesting gem, worthy of a longer stay - next time. Wifi reception was better down stairs.
The black flies (outside) were the only problem, but that is a Maine coastal problem, not just in Blue Hills.
No pool or spa, so?

We live in Bar Harbor and had plans to go to a concert/dance fundraiser in Blue Hill so decided to make a night of it and stay at the Blue hill Inn. The dance benefit was terrific, a wonderful local band called Hoot! The Inn had been highly recommended and we were not disappointed. It was just one night and only 30 miles from home but the Inn as so classy, luxurious and cozy that, when we started back to MDI, we realized we'd been on a real mini vacation and the perfect one at that!

If you like unsurpassed personal attention, delicious and luxurious amenities, and the beautiful, artsy and adventurous coast of Maine....you will never find a more perfect Inn, or enthusiastic, knowledgable innkeeper. Sarah Pebworth has provided every possible need or desire ( and several pleasant surprises!) during our wonderful winter respite....and so pleasantly extended our stay when we couldn't get home as planned. We have enjoyed many inns in the last 30 years of travel..NONE like our experience here. What great, good fortune for visitors to the Blue Hill peninsula ! Alice Ann & Jim Madix
