We checked in late and promptly went out to dinner. When we came back the front desk was gone, we went to our room turned down the bed and found unidentifiable stains ?blood. I had to go the front desk to use an emergency phone to call a night manager that is 30 mins away. No one stays with the guests overnight..

As I was with the night manager on the phone- another woman was locked out of her room. I was told where the “emergency keys were” unsecured in a desk in the front lobby. What prevents another guest from using them and going into another guests room- Nothing!

Very disconcerting

We are a locally owned and operated hotel in a beautiful friendly community. The owner lives on property and on weekends we have staff in house. We do not advertise a 24 hour a day front desk and post a front desk closing by 10:00 PM. We have an extensive monitored surveillance system and are located in town next to the police department. Most hotels in this area do not have 24 hour staff unless they are owned by a chain. Staffing is difficult at this time of year and we have hired some temporary housekeepers. We apologize for the sheets which, while clean, were inadvertently removed from our "donation" pile. Our manager did come in and make your bed and offered to do anything you needed. Our emergency phone system obviously works as she answered your call and came to your assistance. For non-housekeeping issues the owner is always available. Our emergency key which is replaced daily is only good for one use and becomes void. We wish you had shared your concerns while with us so we could have explained all of the above. We have spoken with the housekeepers and changed some systems so the "donation" supplies do not get used. We donate them to local organizations such as our animal shelter.

Definitely a bit different. Welcoming and comfortable. More than a bit unusal in that you need to navigate an overgrown tangle of vines at the entrance. Just locating the ramp to avoid the steps to front door is a challenge. A very unusual arrangement but location is good. Lobby is smallish and cluttered with odd collection of random furnishings - reminds me of grandma's. Rooms are large enough but then too many case goods. Small fridge and microwave stuffed in closet area negating hanging space! If they took out either desk or the table and a chair or two there woukd be sufficient space elsewhere. Bedding is comfortable and place is clean.

We are a bit different. We are not a boutique hotel or a chain, but a family owned and operated establishment that offers many amenities. Our parking lot offers free on site parking for our guests in a very busy town and also provides produce for local families. The vines on our ramp are squash and cucumber plants. Tomatoes fill the planters and all produce is available to our guests as well as local families. The harvest is ending for this year but our lobby contains bowls of apples for local Hope Orchards and with Halloween coming one never knows! Our lobby is used by our guests for reading, guitar playing, karaoke, TV, and games. We listen to our guests and their suggestions and we thank you for your comments.

I wasn't quite sure when I arrived to an entrance ramp lined with overgrown tomato plants and petunias, but I soon learned it set the stage for a wonderfully delightful stay.

We were traveling with friends. This hotel provided great spaces to informally get together with them. The lobby is like a comfortable living room with two large seating areas. There are 'loaner' umbrellas for rainy days, a couple public computers, a variety of board games, saltwater taffy in candy dishes strewn around. The breakfast room is large enough that you do not feel like you have to move on to make room for other guests. You can sit and chat over multiple cups of coffee. There is a balcony off the breakfast room with 3-4 tables overlooking the garden. There is a fire pit in the garden with multiple comfortable chairs around it. Supplies & ingredients for s'mores are available every evening to use at any time. There is a covered area with a big screen and comfortable chairs outside that shows 'Peyton Place' (which was filmed in Camden). Quite simply, it is a comfortable hotel to hang out!

The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, lots of pillows, a writing desk, recently replaced carpet, small fridge, TV, microwave, the makings for in-room coffee, a plug on each bedside lamp to recharge your phones, quick internet and windows that open. Our room was clean and made up by noon every day. The heating/air conditioning worked fine and was not too loud.

The hotel is on a side street off Rt 1 (the main street through town), so the location is much quieter than many options, with the convenience of being able to walk to most restaurants and shops. The rooms are on one side of the building, so there isn't a lot of activity in the hallway. It's as quiet as you are going to get for a central location in a hotel of 30+ rooms!

There is complimentary off-street parking. There is also one coin operated washer and dryer downstairs. Change and detergent are available at the desk.

Was it perfect and pristine? No. Some aspects are a bit 'dated'. Some of the common area furniture had nicks and scratches and the furniture in the room was mismatched (but in good repair). If you need things to be perfect, I guess you need to go to a high end swanky B&B. If you want a pleasant, comfortable stay with clean well appointed rooms & baths, Riverhouse delivers.

Upon entering the hotel, we were put off by the entrance which had plants flopping over broken and watery stairs and the clutter in the lobby. And we thought we were in Pet Smart with all the dogs around!
However, I asked for a room where dogs did not reside and we were put on the third floor. The room was a pleasant surprise as it was very clean and spacious even though it was dated.
The continental breakfast was better than usual with fresh jams and good bagels and yogurt.
It was a good location for walking to the harbor and downtown.
The price was a little high for this old hotel.

Thank you for sharing about your experience. Our plants that cover the front of the hotel feed many families and many guests. We are dog friendly on our first floor and require guests with dogs notify us prior to arrival. Dogs remain on the first floor so our 2nd and 3rd floors are dog free. We provide our guests with not only an in town location within walking distance of all the stores, restaurants, and harbor, but also free on site parking, a heated indoor pool, fire pit and nightly s'mores, and a complimentary breakfast.

My husband and I stayed at the Camden River House in June and had a great relaxing three day experience. The location is perfect , just a quick walk to Camden Harbor , shops and great restaurants and the view of the harbor from Harbor Park.
The rooms are comfortable and spotless with top quality linens and all the amenities one would need whether staying for pleasure or business. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The extended continental breakfast was great, offering cereal of all kinds, pastries , assorted breads , coffee, tea, juice , hard boiled eggs, waffles, fruit
and assorted juices. In the evening the ingredients for s'mores are set out in the garden off the lobby where there is a fire pit to also enjoy and relax with your favorite beverage.
A great hotel to just relax, use as a base for day trips or for your business needs.

A perfect description of a stay at the Camden Riverhouse Hotel. It was nice to hear from a guest that they appreciate our extended breakfast hours, variety of breakfast offerings, and of course our s'more makings. Our location can't be beat and Camden is right in the heart of mid-coast Maine and a great place to use as a base for day trips to Acadia, Boothbay, or the lakes and mountains. Come visit again and thank you for sharing your experience with other travelers.
