This is our third stay at Medawisla and each trip was memorable, once in fall and 2 mid winter. First thing you should know is there is no WIFI and no cell coverage and occasional power outages (bring a headlamp). So if you truly want to unplug, this is the place. We have stayed both in the Hilltop (HT) and Waterfront (WF) cabins and both are cozy and comfortable . The advantage of the HT is private bathrooms, but the bathhouse in WF is close, heated and super clean, they also have a stovetop, sink and fridge. They are all heated by wood stoves include very comfortable beds with flannel sheets. The cabins have high ceilings and huge windows and a front porch. The staff supplies all the wood you need. The friendly and helpful AMC staff here is amazing as they are in all their huts. The camp food is hearty and awesome. I'm a veggie, and they do a great job with that. There are 3 BIG meals a day, all home made including the breads. In fall we biked the trails, you can do most with a gravel bike, but MT bike for some is better. The best XC skiing this winter with nicely groomed trails. Highly recommend the Skyline trail if a 10mile RT is good for you with some long climbs and a really fun downhill. The rest of the trails are flat and pretty for any level skier. A must is to join the AMC as a member before you go. Its cheap and it gets you discounts on your rate, purchases and you support an amazing organisation.

Room tip: Some are on the lake side of the path which might be a slight preference for view or privacy but they are all essentially the same

The accommodations and setting are idyllic. The food is amazing, just check the menu photo! Wonderful cross country skiing. Cabins have electricity and the best stoves, wood and kindling I’ve seen at any Maine camp. Well worth the trip, will be back during fishing season.

A friend and I stayed two nights during the pandemic. The accommodations were clean and inviting and the staff was superb. They brought all meals to our bunkhouse and collected when we had finished. The food was home-cooked. wholesome and delicious. This is part of the AMC hut system, nearly new but built on the site of an old hunting lodge next to Second Roach Pond. We climbed Big Slencer Mt, played cribbage, fished and read. Three glorious days internet-free! Well off the beaten track but worth every dirt road mile to get there.

AMC isn't in it for the money: they actually care about what they do, which is to preserve the outdoors and help visitors enjoy it safely. Therefore, when I booked our stay, the customer relations person answered my COVID questions completely and cheerfully and even invited me to call back, which I did, and I received the same level of courtesy. (By the way, there was a 100% COVID refund policy. These folks are honest.) Anyway, my family of four loved our spotless cabin. Because of pandemic precautions, our delicious meals were delivered to our door rather than served in the dining room, and we could not use the lovely indoor public areas or the bikes. No loss. We spent all our time hiking, kayaking, fishing, reading, and napping--feeling safe for the first time since March. Even our internet-obsessed teenagers loved this vacation and are eager to go back. When you book, don't forget that the rates DO include meals. And why not join the AMC while you're booking? They do a world of good.

Room tip: All cabins have electricity and wood stove. Hilltop cabins have bath/shower. Waterfront cabins have kitchenette and no bath.

Most stunning of all the AMC accommodations I’ve visited. Gorgeous new off-the-grid lodge, bunkhouses and cabins in a perfect setting for xc ski adventures. The trails were meticulously groomed and the staff had excellent suggestions for routes. Meals were terrific and all of our needs were considered - just great hospitality. We stayed in a toasty warm bunkhouse despite the coldest temps of the season outdoors. Can’t wait to go back and explore in the fall for hiking and kayaking.
