We were hoping for a romantic great away during the holidays, The White Barn Inn in Kennebunk missed our expectations.
Our challenges began with dinner at the White Barn Inn Restaurant. The restaurant was not crowded having about 12 seated guests. We ordered martinis. After waiting 15 minutes we asked our waitress if we could have our drinks. Her reply “It would be better if you ordered wine. Our bartender is busy”. We ordered wine and we're going to move on. Then we saw other getting drinks. and politely asked if the bartender could make one of our martinis when they have a chance. The waitress said she’d Google how to make a martini and came back 10 minutes later with the martini. Not the best martini, she got the vodka part correct. Onto the meal. We order a pasta upgrade for our second course, it came out cold. We ordered well done beef for the main course it came out rare. We were brought the wrong deserts. A cappuccino came out cold. When the bill came, we were surprised both martinis and both glasses of wine were on the bill. The waitress graciously removed one of the martinis from the bill.
A little bit of nitpick one this one. When you’re staying at Relais Chateaux property, you would expect the Assistant Inn Manager would asked how your dinner was when retrieving your coats from coat check. And would remember he checked you in two hours prior, therefore would not ask if you needed your car to go home.
The next morning, we discussed our dinner experiences with the front desk who stated the Food and Beverage Manager was not working last evening, validate she had our correct mobile number, and committed to having the F&B manager contact us when he arrived. 24-hours later no call.
Upon check out the next day, we retold our challenges to the Front Desk Manager. She apologized and did the right thing my removing our dinner from our bill. She mentioned, the General Manager would be calling to apologize hear our story directly. 24-hours later no call.
One other item, our room required minor repair work. The work was completed properly, however tools were left behind in the room. Again, missed expectations for a Relais Chateaux property.
Thought. "It is better to reset expectations than to miss expectations"
