Think Majorie Standish (if you are from Maine, you will understand the reference). This is well-prepared, straightforward food. The portion sizes are ample, but not overwhelming (that's a good thing). Some of the food is a little too salty, but better than most restaurants of this type. My wife had the quiche, which was hearty and rustic. I had the turkey club on a gluten-free roll. The GF roll was better than average for restaurants.
There are places on the coast (one example I can think of is the Maine Diner in Wells) that pretend to do foo this way. The Longfellow really does and at attractively low prices.
