We ate lunch here several times and enjoyed the sandwiches, baked goods and other foods. Also quite convenient to get something to take away on the ferry as you head back to the mainland. Also sell a small but good selection of wines and beers for consumption elsewhere.

Great food! I was expecting something just average. The Barnacle is the first place you see when you get off the boat, so there is almost a captive audience. It could easily have just average food, but the chowder, sandwich and cookie we got were quite tasty! It was definitely up there in terms of the best chowder I've had.

I swear this place sells the most delicious croissants ever! They are freshly baked by the Island Inn chef. They have chocolate, raspberry cheese and blueberry cheese. They also have many other delicious baked goods but by far the chocolate croissant is my favorite and they go fast! They never have any left past noon! You will not be disappointed. The Barnacle also has a selections of drinks and a souvenirs. As well as some books and postcards and jams for sale. This is a great first stop when getting off the ferry!

Owned by the Monhegan Inn and staffed by their seasonal help the Barnacle is a great filler for the lunch that the Monhegan Inn does not serve. While no gourmet site this little spot on the dock just near the Inn has an excellent choice of freshly prepared dishes, sandwiches, deserts and coffees that augment the home base at the Inn. The staff is really friendly and helpful although they may be overtaxed with customers from time ti time. There are tables indoors and out and of course the touristy goodies to buy. The Barnacles hours fill the midday need for a place to eat near the action on the dock as ferries come and go and lobster and fishing boats load and unload their gear.

The Barnacle is a great place to stop and get your water, snacks and tasty treats before exploring the island and leaving to go back to the mainland. Their treats are the creation of young hipsters.
