A step back in time....a Friendly Trolley Driver with wonderful suggestions for dinner, where to go for certain items we were shopping for and pleasant conversation about the town. Just added to the charm of the entire Ogunquit visit.

After boarding a northbound trolley from Ogunquit Beach, I was unsuccessful in coaxing the driver to give me a coherent response as to route of travel and allowed stops. Consequently, I needlessly disembarked a mile sooner than was necessary and had to walk on a very busy route #1 with high speed traffic and no sidewalk.

Later, hoping to avert a similar aggravation in the future, I was further frustrated by the lack of any type of easy-to-read, detailed information online that would answer the very simple question of "where does the trolley stop? and what route does it take?" Evidently the trolley company and the chamber of commerce think it is more important to gear their online publications toward glitzy descriptions of what can be seen from the windows of the trolley rather than informing the public where each trolley travels and where the tourists can get on and off to be located anywhere near their eventual destination. There is plenty of information online but none of it has any type of detail that would answer these questions, and much of it is out-dated and factually insufficient.

The trolley was very easy to use there are benches and signs to stand and sit at up and down route 1. It is $1.50 per person each way which could be cheaper than parking. But a day pass might be a better option (which they do not offer). We had one driver with no personality and another with a perfect personailty. You do have to tell them where you would like to get off the trolley or else they will keep driving.

It's a very cool thing to do when you want to see cool sights like perkins cove and many others good prices to ride on it.

Some hotels are not well served by the trolley because of their location. One night the trolley lingered at one of its stops for over 20 minutes. Since our hotel, the wonderful Gorges Grant, came next, this was frustrating. I really had to go to the bathroom and I asked the driver what the problem was, why weren't we moving? He just wouldn't budge or help at all. Honestly, it was a five minute walk, tops, to the hotel, so if he'd only announced that there would be a long layover, we could have opted to walk. The lack of respect for the customer that night was appalling. This was in the off season. It was obvious that no rider would board at the stop because it was a stop near shops that were closed for the night.

The trolley option is a great thing because parking can be hellish in Ogunquit in high season and this enables you to get around without a car. Nevertheless, there are some big problems, and the route is so roundabout. You might see your hotel going by across the street and not get there till 20 minutes later while the trolley makes a circle route or lingers at stops to keep to a meathead schedule.
