This place has elevated Thai food to a new level. I can't believe how excellent the salmon was. it had all the flavors you'd expect from a red curry in a beautiful presentation of banana leaf. The chicken meatballs are very child friendly. The chicken noodle soup is good for those with less adventurous palates.

CheeVitDee is located in the heart of Portland’s Old Port. The food is fine cuisine, creative, delicious, and healthy — not street Thai. The ginger chicken had plenty of vegetables and the rice berry side dish was excellent. The locally harvested mushrooms in the salad and the meal were very tasty. The fresh rolls were amazing and the ginger carrot juice was a delightful dessert. The beer list is also excellent. Prices were reasonable and the server was very attentive. In spite of its location, CheeVitDee may not be overwhelmed with guests. It could be your best bet for a great meal without a long waitin downtown Portland this summer.

Last Tuesday night in January around 6PM, just a few tables taken.
Modern light and open with tall windows to the street, several window tables. High top window seating towards Fore street.

Perfect for a quick meal ahead of a concert at the Merrill.

Tastings:
Lemongrass chicken appetizer with peanut sauce. Tasty Score 3*
Spicy shrimp bites - 4 large shrimp with lemongrass and spices in a marinade - Nice presentation. Refreshing Score 4*
Gai Pad Hing, a special of the evening of Ginger chicken with shiitake mushroom, scallion, garlic, red pepper and fresh ginger. With a side of rice berry. Just super. Score 5*
Ping Ngob, Grilled Salmon Curry wrapped in banana leaves with basil, and rice berry. Very tasty, fun presentation. Score 4*

Enjoyed a wonderfully delicious and authentic dinner at Cheevitdee! From the appetizers to the main course we savored every bite. The 'baked egg' was a velvety smooth flan with a perfectly subtle sauce, shumai that were tender, savory and delicious and the mushroom salad packed with an assortment of exotic mushrooms in a beautiful light broth with bits of ginger and herbs. Dinner was equally enjoyable with a scallop dish in a flavorful sauce that blended curry and heat. Lots of fresh steamed veggies and riceberry. The restaurant has been beautifully updated and was very warm and cozy. Nick gave us great service! It was a totally enjoyable experience and we are looking forward to our next visit.
