We stayed here for 3 nights in February 2012. We are a family of 4, children ages 9 and 12. Our room was clean, new, and much larger than other hotels at which we have stayed in the past. We had a large window, and, even though we were on the 2nd floor, we could see the water. The pool was clean and large enough for play. The breakfast was varied, and while not gourmet (which one would not expect) it was good, and the gentleman in charge was charming and really seemed to care about his guests (and I use the term "guests" truly here. Often, hotels call their clients "guest" but really are just customers). Housekeeping was nice, we had a spill and it was not a problem to get extra towels and a replacement pillow was brought quickly. The gym, especially for this type of property, was great. Several treadmills, 2 elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, weights, balance balls and a water cooler. Free wi-fi and the fridge and microwave ensured that we did not have to go out for every meal or drink. I wish all hotels were this good. And the price could not be beat. Thanks to the Portland Hampton Waterfront for a great stay.

I stayed at this hotel in January. This hotel is within a short walk to all of the attractions in the Old Port. The hotel is fairly new and clean and the staff was friendly. A small brewpub is located in the restaurant. The only drawback is that this hotel charges for parking and only offers valet, no self-park here. This apparently is due to some city ordinance related to parking. Other than that the hotel was enjoyable. I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Although the hotel description says "waterfront", don't expect to have an ocean view...

The Hotel choice for this trip was excellant. The room was clean and spacious, very comfotable. We used the pool, the breakfast was so good and convenient, your staff is friendly from the valet to the room attendants. we would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Adjoining rooms was great for added comfort, room with waterfront view very enjoyable.

This review would likely have been five stars if we hadn't been treated brusquely by the front desk clerk. Over the course of the weekend it became clear that Portland was a little overwhelmed by the number of visitors it had on this February weekend, maybe due to the nice weather. The front desk person was more than a bit sharpish with me, and I didn't appreciate it, then stuck us in a room overlooking a parking lot. A bad first impression.

The rest of the stay was great, though! Every other staff person that I interacted with was charming, visitor-focused, and professional. The room was adequate sized and the king bed was comfortable. There was a mini-fridge in the room that came in handy for our champagne and a microwave we didn't use. We turned the TV on once, and it was fine, but we had some trouble when the remote stopped working - I had to unplug the TV to get it to go off. A small but cool addition was a clock radio alarm clock that had buttons for "Pop", "Country", "Jazz" and a couple other things - that was helpful. I hate trying to find radio stations in new cities, and I felt like a little music. Another helpful thing was that the bedside lamps were easy to reach and easy to turn on and off -- I am amazed at how hard some hotels make it to use these lamps!
The hotel had a pool, but it was filled with the childrens and so I didn't use it at all. It also had a fitness room, but I skipped that after walking six miles around charming (and some not-so-charming) Portland.
This hotel was also in a great location -- if you are visiting the Portland Waterfront district (the tourist/visiting section), you can't do much better than this. It is located on Fore Street, right at the end of the commercial/tourist area. You can easily walk to any of the shops, cafes, and restaurants. The area is safe, well-lighted, and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a Harbor View -- the parking lot is not charming.

We took the train up from the Boston area and spent 1 night here on the recommendation of some friends. The hotel is new and immaculate, with a fancy feel that exceeds the rate level. (The indoor pool isn't huge, but it's beautifully done and plenty to keep our eight-year-olds splashing for hours.) The location is good -- right near the old section of the city with all its little lanes, shops, and restaurants. But best of all was the friendliness of the staff. Everyone we met seemed to go out of their way to make our stay a good one. We'll definitely return.

Just stayed at the Old Port Hampton Inn. I have stayed in all four hotels in the Old Port and I have to say this was fantastic. Rooms are clean!!!!!!!!!! Large and the staff is great. Was going to take my car to dinner but they offered to take us in the courtesy car and it was wonderful, called to be picked up and they were there in a second. The staff went way out of their way for us and seemingly everyone else.
One more thing, the beds were extremely comfortable.
