Was here on a sunny summer day for lunch while family vacation. The vibe remain us of coastal California fare, which was much needed after spending days in upstate Maine eating fried seafood. Good range of tapas, beer and beverages, definitely a hit with tourists. We had a variety of dishes including greens (OK) and tuna tartare (good). Liked the open kitchen concept and got to witness the chefs at work since we were sitting at the bar. Good quality but portions are small and prices relatively steep. Would consider returning when in Portland again.

Spending four nights in Portland we thought we should have one dining experience in experience in a restaurant that was not seafood centered. That said, we did start with a nice crudo.

Not seeing anything on the craft cocktail list that we desired, the bar mixed us a very good but basic Manhattan.

Sampling the menu, we enjoyed a small plate with Benton's ham, fois gras torchon and a roasted carrot dish which were all excellent. The clear star of the meal was their suckling pig, tender and crisp in the same bite.

I thought it was silly to stand in line for dinner at 4:45 in the afternoon, but there was already a line when we arrived at Central Provisions. At 5:00 sharp the front door was opened for seating, and people waiting downstairs in the downstairs bar were let up. We sat at the bar to watch the various small plates assembled and garnished to perfection. Ordered: salmon crudo, heirloom tomato and crab salad, smoked stonecipher carrots, lobster fritters, and suckling pig. The heirloom salad was a stand out, as were the carrots. Lobster fritters were overcooked on the exterior, but good enough on the inside. Crudo was very good, although we'd get the ahi or sea bass next time. Our double order of suckling pick was enjoyed. As explained by the staff, this is comprised of all parts of the pig shredded and reformed, slowly cooked, with a crunchy pork belly outer crisp at the end. Served with marcona almonds.

Service is excellent, all questions are answered patiently.

Based on what we saw and what our fellow diners were liking, next time will try the bone marrow toast, spicy beef salad, and caramelized sheep's cheese.

Nice selection of small plate meals. We sat at the counter where we were able to watch the food prep and prepared dishes coming out. We tried three small plates: Crispy pork, lobster fritters and a fried cauliflower dish. All excellently prepared.

I was excited to try this highly rated dining spot, and was disappointed. At 5:30pm, the main dining room was full, and I was directed to the bar downstairs. The menu looked good and I tried the lobster fritters and the bone marrow on toast along with a glass of wine. The fritters were cold, and very highly breaded with only a trace of lobster meat, as for the bone marrow (one of my generally fav foods), it looked like a cheese pizza! I actually had to ask the server, if this was what I had ordered. The 'toast' was a thick dough with tomato sauce and cheese (I assume the bone marrow must have been in the tomato sauce ???). Not good at all.
