Typical business trip and decided to search out an ocean view for the night. Googled Sebasco Estates and drove through that resort to the end of the point and wow I found a gem. Rock Garden Inn is a peace of heaven. Cottages right out of the sixties.

The views are remarkable, heated pool and breakfast and dinner was great. They will make you a sack lunch if going hiking or exploring at one of the great beaches. Ona the owner very nice. Some time it just pays to go to the end of the road where most great things are waiting. Can't wait to bring my wife up to this retreat on the next trip. Seems to be a great place for artists, as the camp had many out all day drawing and painting. Traveling for 35 years and this has made the top ten of great finds in my travels.

Room Tip: Ask for the Bay view. The tide pulls out of the cove behind the property and Bay view much nicer with the sunsets.

Rock Gardens Inn is beloved by people who come here every year. Indeed, like a well kept secret, we originally heard about it from people who have been coming here for many years.

The grounds:

The peninsula where it is located is a spectacular rocky coast. When the tide goes out it leaves behind tide pools for exploration. The inn provides kayaks. There is a large resort 2 minutes down the road (Sebasco Estates) and inn guests can make use of the resort facilities (playground, swimming pool, bowling alley, golf course, tennis courts, 4th of July fireworks, kid's activities). The inn itself is very quiet and tranquil. There is a small swimming pool onsite. There are no TVs or wifi in the cottages.

The cottages:

The cottages are very comfortable and homey. We felt like we were staying at an artsy, well-to-do great-aunt's home rather than a hotel. Everything was very clean, unfussy and spacious.

The food:

Breakfast and dinner were included in the price. The food was home-cooked and very tasty. Our favourite was the baked goods at breakfast. The staff were all very kind and accommodated our kids and our allergies. Make sure to time your visit to include the Friday lobster bake lunch.

We would definitely stay here again. If you get the chance to visit this part of Maine, don't miss this place!

Just returned from a week's stay at Rock Gardens Inn and I can honestly say it is one of the most unique and beautiful places I have ever visited. Aside from the colorful and artful gardens that greet you as you arrive, the smell of the salt air is intoxicating. Every single spacial cottage is well appointed and has it's own special view of the ocean. The small resort is surrounded by water on three sides. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the facilities are well maintained. The home cooked meals were delicious, using local fish and vegetables. There are sea Kayaks to use and options for other activities. The cottages are free from televisions, however there is one in the main house, as well as free Internet there. There's a lovely small pool and chairs and benches throughout the resort to enjoy the spectacular views. It's an artist's dream. Everywhere you look, inspiration! (and inspiring to think you are walking in the footsteps of great artists such as Wolf Kahn, Janet Fish and Will Barnet, who have led art workshops and painted there.)

If you want to experience an idyllic vacation in a seashore cottage, this is the place for you. Lobster boats, a quiet cove on one side, ocean views as far as the eye can see on the other, charming hosts and wonderful meals, I can't recommend this unique little place enough--Maine at its finest!

Rock Gardens Inn is situated in one of the most beautiful spots in Maine and is truly one of those places where you can get away from it all and relax in an atmosphere of days gone by. The accommodations (single rooms or cottages with great views) are simple, comfortable and cozy. The owners and staff are very nice.
I’ve attended one of their art workshops two years in a row in September, and it’s an ideal setting for several days of outdoor painting. They provide good meals in a picturesque dining room so you don’t even need to leave the premises. There is a studio to keep your supplies and work if it rains. There weren’t enough hours in the days to paint all the beautiful spots.
This is a great place to toss your cell phone, pick up a good book, paintbrush or camera and reconnect with nature and the simple pleasures of life.

We have been going to the Rock Gardens Inn for over 10 years now, and just recently with our 2 year old. They are great with couples as well as families, and the staff is extremely accommodating.
What I love about the RGI is the private and comfy cottages, some located only feet from the rocky ocean ledge, and all with a gorgeous view of the Maine ocean landscape (there are a few shared). The excellent food is included in the price, and the dinners offer a choice of seafood or landlubber fare each evening. Ahhh, the homemade muffins and fresh (and tasty) coffee, along with a full breakfast awaits you each morning.
There are activities each day including yoga, kid's art, garden and boat tours, kyaking, golf and tennis, beaches, etc. Also a heated swimming pool.
NOTE: The cottages are lovely and quaint, but you won't find jacuzzis, fancy marble or television in the rooms. And there isn't a wild nightlife either. But there is plenty of fresh ocean air, wholesome food, good reading and exercise available! And if you feel the need to shop, Freeport is close by...
