“Lovely Inn and Cafe in Acadia Maine.”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

I stayed at this lovely Inn for two nights. The room was very comfortable and clean. The a/c was a bit loud. Southwest Harbor is a great location. It is off the beaten path but close enough to the National Park. The Inn keepers were warm and welcoming.

We made ressies for the Dry Dock to extend our stay near Acadia by one night (we changed our plans after making our initial reservations, and just needed one more night).

We saw reviews of "charming" and "quaint" so we made reservations.

We stopped by during the days before we were to check in, and we're glad we did! The "Inn" is just several rooms over a bar. They may be nice (we didn't even see them), but calling it an "Inn" is a stretch.

No dedicated parking: find a sopt on the street if you're lucky, or in a city lot a block or more away.
Tote your luggage up a narrow stairway to a room overlooking the cross street of the main drag an another busy street.
If you want to go to bed early, better bring earplugs because you're right over the resturant / bar.

We made reservations at another place for that night and were happy to eat the night's charge.

The Cafe drydock and Inn is located in downtown Southwest Harbor. The Inn has 7 rooms and dates to the 1920's. We do not have a front desk and also do not lock the front door. The inn is a stepback in time to a slower pace and that is what attracts so many people to us. As owners we live in the inn and are available 24 hours a day. We also own a resturant under the inn. All our rooms have private baths and never has anyone been alowed up stairs to use the bathrooms. The rooms all have deadbolts locks and there has never been a problem with the front door as the police station is across the street in a town of under 2,000 residents. We may not appeal to everyone. Are rooms are all modern and updated. Our resturant was closed when this person supposedly stayed here. There are many other fine places to stay on the island and we understand that you cannot please everyone in our 25 years of business.

My famliy and I have stayed at the Cafe Drydock many many times (we have three young kids). The service is great for a small hotel. Our room is always clean and neat (like we are the first people to ever stay there). The restruant down stairs has the best food...all made fresh with local ingredients. Can't get any better than that! The owners are always there walking around making sure that everything is OK and offering any advice on what to go and see in the area.
I've already booked our return for summer 2008. Can't wait to go!

My husband and I have stayed at Cafe Drydock on several occasions and have always experienced consistent, courteous service. The rooms are clean and attractively decorated with a local charm that a national chain hotel can not offer. The restaurant offers the freshest seafood purchased from local fisherman--try the fresh halibut sandwich, you'll never meet its match anywhere else. Of the several friends and family we have sent to Cafe Drydock, each has enthusiastically endorsed our recommendation. If you want to experience the true charm of a Maine coast town away from the tourist traps, head for Southwest Harbor and Cafe Drydock.

My wife and I stayed here on along weekend, It is located right i the middle of town with the ability to walk to anything you may need. Rooms were well maintained and clean. The restaraunt downstairs had awesome steaks and seafood. My wife loved the bourson chicken enough she had it every night. The owners were right there the duration of our stay and were very friendly, even offering advice on what to look for when staying around the MDI area. There is a small bar in the resturaunt and by the end of the evening there were a bunch of locals there so we really got to experience the "downeast" way of life. We had a great time, staying here is a vacation in itself. Will stay here next time we travel to the Bar Harbor area.

I just wanted to write a quick note to say that the person with the absurdly negative review of the Cafe Drydock and Inn must have very little positive memories of their overall trip. Those that are that negative seem to bring it with them wherever they go. For an accurate review of the Drydock, listen to me. I have been a longtime customer of the Drydock and find it to be one of the most appealing eateries and inns on Mount Desert Island. First of all, all of the inn rooms all have private bathrooms and under no circumstance are customers going into these locked inn rooms and using these bathrooms! If you need further proof, refer to their website and see for yourself a wide and in depth description of each room. Second of all, you cannot find a better place to stay when looking for classic Maine vacation. All rooms are very clean, smoke free, and all have individual charm (I have stayed in 3 of the rooms at different times and would recommend to anybody) and I had the entire inn booked for my wedding a couple of years ago and I believe my friends and family were quite happy. Again, check out their website for everything the inn has to offer. Finally, as for the restaurant, they happen to carry the freshest quality seafood around in addition to fabulous steaks, burgers, chicken, and clam chowder. This place is not to miss!
