We stayed at the Gateway Hotel on the night of October 10th. This is an unassuming hotel, nothing fancy, but with clean, attractive, updated rooms. It’s in a great location to walk to both the beach and the boardwalk and for a quick drive to Assateague. I’m giving it 5 stars because of the great customer service we received. Unbeknownst to us, we arrived on the last night of the “Endless Summer Cruisin’” Car Event. The culmination of this event is for the participants to drive around the streets of Ocean City to show off their cars. People sit in chairs along the streets to watch the hot rods go by. Unfortunately, this also means lots of revving of engines and rumbling of cars that have been purposely tooled for maximum noise. One side of the hotel faces a busy street that has a stop light nearby. While on a normal night this wouldn't be an issue, on this night it quickly became apparent to us that the noise was going to be unbearable and make sleep impossible. We had already been in the room for an hour or two, but when I talked to the staff at the front desk, they were more than happy to move us to another room on the other side of the building. Even though I knew this meant they would have to fully clean and sanitize an extra room, they were quite gracious...We stayed at the Gateway Hotel on the night of October 10th.
